Tail gate cover

Hey guys, have a chance to pick up a LMC tailgate cover for $70 and would like to know just how much of a pain they are to put on. Have not started the build yet so paint is not a issue.

Yes it is a skin that completely smooths out the tailgate.

Yeah they are a pain in the butt. Lots of welding and filling and bodywork.

I've used these a couple of times in the past. It just depends on how well you want to seal it. As far as putting it on its pretty easy, just pop it on. On one truck I just welded the inner lips on the top and bottom of the tailgate and clamped and tacked the sides in several spots. The other was welded solid on the sides and took a while to get just right. It did look good afterwards though.

I will let you know in a few days I am doing it to mine but I am using body bond epoxy to attach it to the tail gate not welding any thing that way no metal working just a little bondo work I hope on a side note I used seat belt buckles as latches and thay work grate

porn pic's bonded tail gate cover on (no welding no screws ) and bonded the 20 gauge sheet steel to the bed cover frame

I have been thinking about smoothing the inside of my tailgate . now that the outside is all smooth and clean it is ugly like 2 or 3 of my ex-wife's

I welded a sheet of 14 gauge steel plate to the inside of the tailgat. I covers up everything except the tailgate handle. The pic is before paint. Next the bed will be spray lined.
