tachometer

hey guys was wondering if you all could tell me how to hook up a tachometer in my truck. its 79 k10

Red to ignition hot, black to ground, tap the white into instrument lights (headlight switch is the closest tap), and green goes to the "TACH" connector on the distributor, beside where the big red wire goes in the side of the top of the cap.

Factory or aftermarket?

Either one is going to pretty much be the same. Most aftermarket tachs have 4 wires, white, black, green and red.

Red: 12+
Black: ground
Green: distributor - most caps are marked "TACH" and that's where you plug it in.
White: illumination - to the dash lights.

A tach will have 4 wires.
power=to swithed hot
ground=to fire wall
light power=to dash light curcit
dist lead=to dist, plugs in right next to dist power lead, its labeled "tach" on the cap.

yes you are lmao thanks alot guys figured it would be alot harder than that lol

and it is aftermarket i bought the set and my dash has the two big holes in the middle and the smaller ones on the side. well the two bigger holes are for the speedo and the fuel. The set came with a big tach and speedo then the fuel level is a smaller one. if it werent for that i wouldn't even bother with it. lol ll never use the tach. I know where to change gears in my truck, i can listen and do that lol.
