so you already have the new switch in or you have to do that still?

they can be a pain, and sometimes they have to be adjusted, which they come with instructions on how to do so.

Had it in, bolted the steering column back up and everything to test it and once I realized I maybe did not have the wires on completely I was in the dark working from cell phone light, I took it out to compare to the old one which I had back at my house.

I'm going to do some research tonight and hopefully get it.

Thanks again.

When you say NOTHING except the lights, you mean headlights? How about tag marker lights? And horn? So only headlights and horn? How about dash lights of any kind? Any gauges??? I'd also be thinking fusible link for some reason. Should be on the firewall IIRC in the heavy wire running from the starter to the fuseblock. This is if you've lost everything.

Ignition switch is a great suggestion too, since the horn and headlights don't go thru the switch but everything else does.

Only thing I can get out of the truck is the Headlights, and the horn.

I will give them another wiggle tomorrow and use a test light.

Thanks for the suggestions Hotrod

My truck was doing something similar to this. Ended up being the fusible link on the starter.

I had this happen to me once, scratched my head for a few minutes pissed that I couldn't go to work, then just for giggles I dropped the steering wheel down a bit with the tilt. Bam... fired right up. Haven't had a problem since. Dunno what happened but it helped me!

Mine does that to me if I tilt the wheel up top far too. It pinches somethin or pulls on something !

That is the ignition switch rod needing attention. In most cases, it's bent and not getting the reach it used to originally.

Since I have no tilt wheel that is not the case...

BUT....

Fusible Link was the culprit. Something my boss man had never seen before either, the wire had shorted up the wire about 6 inches from the link. So when I had the test light on either side I was pulling 12 volts.

Thanks for the help and patience.

You don't have to have a tilt wheel to have a bent rod. it's just that the guys with a tilt wheel can notice it easier with adjusting the tilt wheel adjusts the length of the rod a bit, so it just helps in diagnosing that as a problem. But it is more common on the tilt wheel.

I figured it was the fusible link. That's happened frequently lately.

Hang around, you'll be able to build one from the ground up soon.
