Back in the day, a lot of guys ran duels because most of the bigger tires were bias and, they weren't always round. :anitoof:

Today, it's almost the opposite. Radials rule the roads and are far greater in their street capabilities. As several others have already said, loose steering components have always been guilty, leading guys to run duels.

One last thing to mention, positive caster can also help with the way a truck drives with really big tires. Years ago, I worked in a front end alignment shop and we did quite a few alignments on Blazers, Broncos, P/U's... with large tires. The boss always made sure those rigs had more caster than the average 4wd. It helped them drive better.


TO CHANGE CASTER ON A LIVE AXLE. You would add shim/wedge to the spring/diff ,it would be making the pinion angle more to the transfer case (making it positive caster) It would roll the diff to make the angle more but changing the caster positive? The shim would be small but how small/big could you use.So IF I am thinking correctly bigger lift would have more of a chance for "death wobble"?Or is there another way I don't know about?

the top one is a camber shim and the lowers are ford and dodge style combination caster-camber bushings. I don't think the bushings will work in the threaded upper ball joint space on the half or three quarter axles. They do make a threaded version with a shim for that application though

Has anyone ever seen a stabilizer on a 2wd? I'm picking up an 81 2wd Blazer for my daughter and someone put what looks like a shock bolted to the crossmember and center link.

I don’t think they did from the factory,don’t quote me on that. But it wouldn’t be hard at all for someone to do it themselves.

I have only seen one on a friends 2WD 1971 International pickup. I'm sure stabilizers were available from the aftermarket back in the day for a Blazer.

Seems to me I saw an illustration in one of my manuals for a 2WD stabilizer. It mounted longitudinally on the right front frame and connected to a bellcrank on the knuckle or idler arm. I'll see if I can find it when I get to the shop.

Here's the picture, but it may be from the previous generation of trucks. The book is kind of vague about what it fits. However, it might be something to look in to if you're interested in adding a damper to a 2WD.

That 22.4 picture is a motorhome chassis I believe, possibly step van ,with the duel position Idler arm.

No sir I don’t believe so. I’ve seen the same bend on multiple frames. This is a 70 c10 frame

I realize the year and I know when installing headers, even on a small block, notches must be cut in the frame for clearance. It was a suggestion not a cause.

Those frames all have that 67-72 C and K series
