The one hanging under the dash is for the factory radio. Constant 12 volts and the dimmer wire.

The one under the hood looks like it was a fuse holder for an old trailer brake controller or something.

Holy Christ what a hack job! :wtf:

You got a hell of a mess there, there are crimped connectors galore in there. :console:

First off trace that black wire cable sheath coming out of that electrical taped mess and see where that sucker leads to, see where it goes up to the left of the column over the a/c duct and disappears? Man I wish I was there to help.

I got to run and take my daughter to work then me and the younger daughter got **** to do outside so I gotta run, I'll check in later at some point.

That is a mess all right. It can all be straightened and I`d guess eliminated,it looks like either someone had install a brake controller or some kind og after market radio.
If it has a receiver hitch and a six wire, round plug on or near the hitch area, then I`d guess it was for a brake controller, especially with that extension cord looking mess with all the tape over the end of it.
Here is where You will need this little prayer that I had developed for such situations as this.
"Lord,Grant Me the wisdom and knowledge to deal with My impatience",never ever ask the Lord to send You patience,He will put every slow driver on the road ahead of YUou,trans at the crossings, people with coupons at the check out,etc.:happy175::anitoof::popcorn:

i think is "paralell" wiring of the hazzard switch, as i have a "hazzard switch button" added on the bezel.

Perhaps one the precedent owners didn't find the switch on the steering column, and decided to add one, after what an other knowing that the switch is on the column on this kind of us cars disconnect the hack.

If the hazard light switch on the column works then, If it were Me,I would be for removing that mess.
It it were in fact for a brake controller then,if I ever planned on pulling a tandem axle trailer,ot a trailer with brakes, then I think I would clean that mess up and install a new brake controller.

That's always a scary feeling opening up a dash and finding that. Then you have to decide if you just want to leave it alone or remove it all and try to figure out how everything is supposed to be.

i'll repair this later, as i am planing to swap the engine for a more modern one (probaly a LS1), i 'll have to adapt tha whole wiring harness to keep AC, cruise control and all the others features, but it is not for tomorow.

my headligh connectors are hacked in the same way. one of the P/O was not a good electrician

it is running like this, i prefer make more important repair such as put back a front drive shaft, put 2 new tanks...

it was the same mess in the dashboard of my cJ7 when i got it, and now it is clean everything is at the right place.
