Just wondering if anyone can help me. I have a 1986 suburban with cruise control. I am trying to replace the brake light switch but just don’t see how it will thread in to the retaining clip. I took the old one out but when trying to turn the new one into the retaining clip it cannot make a full turn because the electrical **** on the switch are hitting the brake pedal arm. What am I missing here. Thanks.

Welcome and thanks for joining Brent.

Maybe you have to remove the clip, insert the switch, and then put the whole unit back on..

While you down there, you might want to splice one of the wires, run to switch for a brake light defeat.
Why...? Cop cars have them...

Just push the switch straight in. If you're tabs are loose you can crimp them down slightly, you can run a zip tie around it if you feel like it's loose

It should just push straight in.
Also you may have to adjust the depth to make sure it's not in too far or your brakes will stay on.

Does it not thread into that retaining ring and that’s how you adjust the depth of the switch
