Long time lurker first time poster. Learned alot on this forum and learned alot from many of the members on here. Well searched through the forums and didn't find enough info for my situation. I have a 1980 c10 a good truck Ive had for 5 or so years driving it nearly everyday save the last 6 months. So im getting it going again (pumping out the old gas and changing oil)and looking to put a little money into it and have a few rust spots. Im a decent mechanic but know very little about body work. Would it be cheaper to repair rust damage in the below pics or replace panels? if repaired what methods/materials would you use. I appreciate all advice in

If the panels unbolt, it's always easier to replace them. Being as you're in Texas, I would think finding clean original factory metal wouldn't be too difficult. (Aftermarket panels generally don't fit as well, and often are produced from thinner gauge steel) And welcome to the forum.

You can get patch panels for the fenders but I've never seen any for the hood. I've gone thru 4, yes 4 hoods. I finally found one rust free. The hood rusts from the inside out. If you're not too picky that hood can be repaired for the short term but any hood like this should be drilled for drain holes on the backside.

On my last hood I poured Evap-O-Rust into the front edge and let it sit overnight.
Day 2 I flushed it out.
Day 3 It was dry and I sprayed Eastman's Rust Converter inside the front edge.
Day 4 I sprayed undercoating in there.
Day 5 I drilled the previously mentioned drain holes.

Now I can only hope.

When I lived in San Antonio I used to go to a place called Crash Parts of Texas, and they sold reproduction hoods, fenders and other panels for a very good price. Apparently they are now closed, but I would think there may be similar businesses still operating.

LMC truck also has a big selection, but they are not cheap, and then you have to add the shipping.
