Now what do you mean by they don't work? As if steering is hard, brakes are hard as if you're not getting any assistance with the hydraulics? Are you positive you got the right pump and that is doesn't operate in the opposite direction? Not sure on this, but I do know for a fact there are 2 different water pumps. They look identical, but one goes one for certain model years and one goes the other.

Did you have this problem before you replaced the pump?

Did you bleed the pump after installing it?

Does the pump make any noise?

...the brakes are all mechanical ...

What does that mean? You mentioned hydroboost in the first post so they're not manual, they are assisted by the hydroboost/power steering pump.

OF you hooked the lines up backwards then you wouldnt get any power assist to either. The power goes from the pump to the hydroboost to the steering box and back to the pump. If you have even one of those lines wrong you could be pushing pressure the wrong way and no assist.
