When sandblasting and repainting a frame.

Which paint is better and will protect longer from rust? Automotive paint or Rustolem paint?

The reason I ask this I though painting the 67 F100 frame with the flat black rustolem paint?

IMO the absolute best is POR15 hands down! Just be sure and use a another POR15 product called "Metal Ready" to prep the surface after you've cleaned it off. You'll only have to coat it that one time and never do it again. With a regular paint you'll have to go back and touch up periodically. It'll be expensive on the front end but it worth every penny.

POR comes in black? I thought it just comes in clear for coating chrome bumpers etc.

Actually POR15 primarily comes in black. I never heard of the clear version of it. I used it on my frame and underside of my truck and works great!!

That rustoleum rust converter paint is good **** too, even on non rusted surfaces, nice and deep flat black, goes on thick and sticks good. But at 5 bucks a can I am sure it would even out cost wise just to go with the POR15. I have never personally used the POR15, but seen pics and heard reviews of nothing but praise for it.

:waytogo:

Now just go one click over to here:
http://www.por15.com/POR-15-Rust-Preventive-Paint/products/1/

and this is what you need for your frame and undercarriage of your truck. The stuff goes a LONG ways so you really shouldn't need a ton of it to do your entire frame.

You'll also need this:
http://www.por15.com/PREP-READY/productinfo/MRG/

to coat the metal prior to putting the POR15 on. Just spray a layer of this stuff on, let it sit for a little bit and you're ready to put on your POR15.

I would buy the rustolem by the gallon. Lowes sell it in gallons also. I think its 30-40 per gallon of flat or gloss black.

Yah, that's the better way, I just don't have a spray gun and want to mess with chemicals and mess so I do it the easier, more expensive way, lol.

I've never used por-15 but I have heard to use gloves and long sleeves as this will take weeks to come off your skin.

My dad used POR-15 on the chassis of the Nova and it looks like powdercoat, it's freakin' shiny! I like it...

This is true. If you get it on your skin it takes about 2 or 3 days to wear off. I always wore gloves, long sleeves and long pants when working with it. I ruined a couple shirts so don't wear something you care about when working with it :D

Sounds like its just oil base paint. The quick clean up method is gas or let wear off on its own.

 I just know it works darn good and is said to never chips off and will prevent rust from ever coming back and if rust is already present will stop it immediately!
