MIG weld them is my vote, more permanent than bondo, but you may want to go the bondo route just to keep from blistering your paint.

As C4 said you could weld. On mine, though, I filled my holes with fiberglass filler from a company called Evercoat. Worked GREAT and fairly straight forward to use. Then after you sand that down good you go over with a light skim coat of body filler then metal glaze and it's smooth as ice.

Leave the trim, they belong on these trucks... it just looks "right". That's just my opinion anyway.

Anyways, when you remove the trim, please please please remove it the right way and don't ruin it. There's folks out there that have a hard time finding that trim.

I understand you concernn bucket and would probly leave it but the trim is in pretty bad shape, previous owner(s) have used lots of sheet metal screws to re-attach it in many, many places. Kinda sad. I do agree that it does just look right but I kinda want a smooth look. You never know, with the satin black I am thinking of painting the truck new trim from LMC might be just the look I want. The fender emblems are off a Bonanza 20, guess the old owner thought it would be cool. The Bonanza pkg. didn't come out till 78 or 79 I think, (please correct me if I'm wrong). Again thanks for the input, I have never repainted before and will have questions.

Keep in mind, black is going to show every single little flaw in your body work. If they have put sheet metal screws, you're gonna have some work cut out for you, and if you don't get it all perfect, it's sure gonna show in black color. Might want to consider a lighter color to hide the flaws. White hides flaws great, but I am not a fan of white myself either, unless its got some cool graphice to go over the white or white as a secondary color to a 2 tone like it is now. I kinda like the colors it is now. :waytogo:

Hrpc does bring up a good point. So if you're painting it black make quadruple sure that the bodywork is smooth.

Lol, I hate that theory. Bodywork should be perfect for any color. Maybe it's just because I do it for a living, but wavy bodywork stands out to me no matter what color the paint is. Even the white ones.

I would agree bucket. Do it right the first time no matter the color. I was mainly just agreeing that with black every blemish is that much more noticeable. Heck, even with my dark blue it shows imperfections really easily! :)

I sure agree with you bucket and doing it right, and on all colors, but for a newbie without alot of experience, some piss poor body work in a light color or white is not an eye sore that jumps out to get you, where in a dark or black color is very obivous, you don't have to go looking for it, you see it clearly. I'm like you in dryway or new home building. I walk into a house and every flaw jumps out at me, where as the normal person, they'll never notice until I point it out. So I usually don't point out for that reason. Once they know about it, it will bug them forever.
