I have a 83 k20 with an 87 np208 transfer case. it will pull in 4wd but it wont in 2wd. Iv checked the linkage and adjusted it but its still doing the same thing. what could be broken inside that would cause this and how hard would it be to rebuild. I can do almost anything when it comes to motors but its just something about transmissions and t cases that kind of intimidate me into letting someone else do it. thanks for the help

Hit the junkyard and look for a 241 out of 88 and up Burbs and Crew Cabs. Although unless you luck out and find a mechanical speedo unit you would be stuck with a VSS to mechanical issue.

Kleedus is right though the 208s not very difficult. Get a rebuild kit for $125 and that will give you all new bearings, seals and shift fork pads. If the shift arm is bent then probably another $1-150. The chain is good unless you get play at the link pin when pulling and pushing on it. The chain wears at the pins which makes play which is what gives you the stretch in the chain. If there's no play the chain is fine.

You will need a giant size pair of snap ring pliers, a small bearing puller and a torque wrench. An impact is also great for removing the out put yoke retaining nuts.
