Hello,
I'm new here. I know, if you don't have pics up it isn't real but I'm working on getting some. I have a question about my T-case. I have a 1987 V10. I looked at two different sites with RPO codes listed. I was pretty sure I had the NP208 T case. I thought they quit using the NP203 in 1979 but one of the websites shows RPO code N41 as an NP203 case and the other site shows RPO code N41 as power steering. Just wanted to double check. Also, anyone know of a good site for gears? Just found out that I have 3.42's and I want to go with 4.10's.

Thanks for your help,
CJ

I'm pretty sure you have the 208. If you have 2WD on your floor shifter for the t-case it definately isn't a 203 which is fulltime 4WD. As for gears your best bet might be Summit/Jegs, but depending on what you're getting a good deal might be found at Complete Off Road...

Thanks man. That's what what I was thinking but I'm not real familiar with 4 wheel drive stuff so I wanted to double check. I do have 2WD on the floor shifter so I'm sure it's a 208.

As far as swapping auto hubs with manual hubs, is there anything else I need to do other than stick the manual hubs in?

I'm not that familiar with auto hubs but I'm sure there's something to engage them, like a vacuum or electric actuator. Need to look at the front axle and see what you can find, or get a Haynes manual.

the hubs are very easy to change, if you buy warn they come with very detailed instructions, if the autos are working good i would just let them be

no, there's nothing electric or vacuum to actuate them. and yes, they are simply remove and replace for manuals. if they're "working good" now, change them. they'll continue to "work good" until you need them.

i see the famous grease dog has shown up, auto hubs are not as strong as a locking hub, but if you are not hard core four wheeling they will work fine, being in the auto repair business for a living i have seen as many warns fail as i have seen of the autos

i like to know my hubs aren't going to engage, rather than the surprise.

A fight.. A fight a ..... and a white !!! Again, another one of those like ********, we all have one, and all have an opinion. I myself prefer the locking ONLY because I like to know for 100% positive I'm locked in. If I manually lock it in, then I know its in. I've got one truck with manuals and one truck with autos. So regardless of what you have, and regardless if they work or not, go with what you feel you'd like to have Slow87.
BTW, Welcome aboard GMSB. So what can we do about this SLOW 87 and make it maybe FAST87, or at least anything but slow.

I agree 100% with greasedog on this. The auto hubs suck and they WILL at some point get you stuck. They just can't be trusted anymore, it has nothing to do with hard wheeling... they just decide to fail whenever they want. My left auto hub started to fail on me and I almost got stuck... in 3 inches of snow on level pavement:shitsweak: I milked it like that for a while because it usually would eventually lock in (after lots of wheelspin followed by a thunderous bang), but then one day I was driving down the road in NICE weather and it kept trying to lock in. It didn't sound pretty.

I still have those auto hubs on that front axle (I took it out) and the one hub was still working. If anyone wants it, they can have it. But don't ask me to pull you out when you get stuck, lol.

True Slow87. I see both sides here. As towman said, IF you're not in heavy 4x4ing.... I myself will convert my other truck that is auto to manual eventually. Cuz I want to KNOW I can count on the hubs.
