I always heard they had problems breaking cranks, but I had never actually seen one do it. Just my luck, mine broke the crank 2 days after I bought it.

The 6.2 I put back in it is out of another pickup. I put all new bearings in it and re-ringed it. New oil pump, new injectors, new harmonic balancer, new glow plugs, rebuilt starter, etc. Pretty much everything but bore the cylinders, cause new pistons were effin expensive. I didn't want to put any more money into it cause now I'm paranoid this one will break the crank too and I'll be out a ton of money.

Many times diesels don't need bored. This is because diesel fuel is an oil itself, so there is alot less friction and cylinder wear than a gas motor. Exactly why diesel motors outlast gas motors motors more than 2 to 1. Now that is reffering to the internals not everything else. But, sounds like you should be good to go for quite some time. Only thing I didn't see replaced that might be an issue down the road is the injector pump. Did you measure the cylinders for tolerances to see where the wear is if any???

Injector pump was just recently rebuilt on the blown up motor and everything looked great so I ran it. And the cylinders had a bit of taper to them, but not terrible. It was good enough for my brother and he's a diesel mechanic, so it was good enough for me. Lol. Working on a diesel motor is foreign territory for me.

Sounds like all the paticulars are new or recently new then. Should be a good running motor for quite some time.

From everything I read about the 6.2 it sounds like this motor will be fine for years to come. The breaking cranks problem is caused by bad balancing in the engine. From everything i read, a new updated harmonic balancer will fix it and should not happen again.

I'm crossing my fingers. Lol. I finally got the starter back and installed last weekend. So now I can get back to getting everything buttoned up and take it out for a test drive.

Well, I took a some pictures of the rest of my junk while I was at my brothers house for those who were interested.

The '82 I'm gonna use as a DD so I can keep the new Dodge halfway decent. Just picked up the drivetrain for it on Saturday.

Yea...I should have robbed the good parts and smashed a couple while iron prices were high. I just hate to see an old truck go out like that.

I know what you mean. I recently scrapped a K10 and K10 Burb for $230 a ton. That wasn't so bad. And I robbed a **** ton of good parts of them. They were rust buckets so it didn't hurt to bad.
