Right now I have these tripod mirrors and I don't like the way they look.

These mirrors that I see on most square bodies are the ones that I wanted from the start.

I can weld the three holes shut on the door from the tripod mirrors, but is there measurements or a template of some sort to know where you drill the new holes for the newer mirrors? I know it can be done but I don't how people do that. Any help is appreciated.

Sounds good! You don't have to rush to it if you don't want to i'm FAR from putting these mirrors on.

I found out there's another option for mirrors out there. I went and looked at a truck today that originally had the little sport mirrors, but somebody put on some aftermarket stainless mirrors that look like the dumbos, but smaller. They were basically 3/4 scale dumbos.

Did those even look alright on the truck?

Just use a piece of paper as a template, put up on door, mark holes and drill.

Might have been Dodge mirrors.

They're aftermarket, squares didn't get the common dumbo style until 1980.

I can easily make a template but I wanted to know where to slap down the holes on the door.

Here's pics and measurements from mine, these are factory size and location. I also believe there is a brace/reinforcement on the inside of the door skin, you may want to make sure you do that:
Thank you very much, this will help out a lot

I know they're aftermarket, but then you threw Dodge into the mix...

Yeah, they were available in stainless too.

I was going to use a set in black with black Chevy bases because some of the black ones (as well as stainless) were power.
