i hate cali smog laws... i say if its clean at the pipe, you should be good to go... thats why i had to do a cab swap, mainly for the motor i wanted to run... no more smog for me

so it was all back together, i was going to do the timing when i noticed a drip coming from the front of the motor. I thought it was a bad lower hose so i changed it, still leaks.. I got under it and it looks like the water pump is leaking from the housing, it look oem and it rusty so im guessing thats the problem... any input? i knew I shoulda just changed it when i had all the belts and stuff off.
heres the old rusty leaky water pump

Weep hole leaking in the water pump bearing race??? Probably time for a water pump Dawg. If it's dripping from from behind and under the pulley, dollars to donuts says that's what it is.

That's up to you. It's not like you're all in there. Sure, you're up to the timing cover, but then you need to take the harmonic balancer off, to pull the timing cover you'll need to loosen most of the oil pan bolts since the oil pan locks in the lower gasket of the timing cover, then you need to replace the front seal in the timing cover while you're there. So unless you know the chain is very well worn, or need to replace the front seal in the timing cover, I'd probably hold off on the timing chain install.

yep, you were right, thanks. There was a ton of grease coming out from where the fan bolts up too, damn this pump really was toast... I think ill pressure wash the front of the motor before i put the new pump in. Maybe clean off the balancer and mark tdc to make it easier to time.

something might leak if you pressure wash it.

Like what? I like to take my vehicles to the car wash and I get over the top and underneath them to pressure spray with engine degreaser soak first, the hit it with hot soap car wash water, then rinse in cold water high pressure. Much easier to find the leaks if you clean it all off real good, then go watch for where it starts leaking.

so the pump is fine... drove around the block and now its leaking gas!! smh... i think its just the rubber line going into the pump, im gonna pull it off and get a new one, then it should be on the road... FOR SALE. Im moving on to another project after this, its never ending. I fix one thing and something else brakes. im just done with this truck.
