I have a 1983 k10 with a 350SB and a 350TH with 2.72gears on 31in tires. I want to put 3.73 gears in my front and rear end. Can you guys help me out on the process to do this? I've asked around some local car shops, for brand new gears there saying 1500-1000 dollars to install, seems really steep. So I want to do it myself. I seems like it would be easier just to swap the entire front and rear axle assemblies. What should I be looking for when shopping around junkyards. I know I need the same bolt pattern for my wheels, what about the drive shaft? Is there different U-joints I need to look out for?
Here's an idea, I know that some more modern Chevy trucks have rear disc brakes can I take the axles from one of those and put them on my truck? Just a few modifications I'd have to do.
