My truck came with a billet grille.

I want a stock one. The old one has these brackets.

do the original grilles utilize these same brackets.

new grille seems to only be the grille. No mounting brackets included

can I reuse these ?

For your '81? The stock grille doesn't use mounting brackets. Just 5 or 6 screws along the top of the radiator support and 3 screws at the bottom, into the filler panel.

Ok so I’ll look for the holes. It was weird , the radiator support had pre installed nuts to accept the custom bracket ? Weird … thanks

Your truck may be an ‘81.. but I don’t see any ‘81 front end parts. Someone must’ve swapped parts from an earlier model.
That filler panel and core support are definitely not from a 1981.
Here’s pics of an ‘81 rad support. Also Your hinges, hood, fenders, Headlights etc, all are pre 1981

Agreed, everything in those pictures looks just like my 1980. Frame is not an 81, and that core support matches my 1980 Core support as well.

So what grille did you get? An '81-up grille won't fit. A '73-'80 grille will, but you will need the correct factory brackets, depending on the grille you choose and whether or not you have the optional inside hood release.

You could make something work with those maybe. But just buy the factory brackets. LMC has them or pull out of a junk yard which is what I did

2 holes are in that center support. I swear it has brackets that will bolt up to the same place that bracket you had did. I have some pics. But I have an 80 so I'm not sure it will help since your the second iteration of the squares.

Im sooo confused ... lol My truck is a 1980 K10 I dont know why my username is 81Squared, mustve been late at night.

So .... My truck is 80, i removed the chrome today, there were 7 holes in the lip of support.

Since my truck is a 80 are the mounting locations different ? I want to buy a new grille but I want to make sure it will fit.

The ones I see have 3 screw holes on the top of the grille. Do these go into the holes in the radiator support ? If so, what do you use for a retainer nut ? the plastic ones ?

my existing grill used the pre installed bolts on the radiator vertical supports.

does anyone have any pics of there grills so I can see how it looks

thanks to everyone for the help !!

OK thanks

so if Im understanding this.. 73- 80 had the chrome detail on rad support and the grille mounts using the nuts on the vertical supports , if this is accurate wont all grilles from 73 to 80 have tabs on the back of the grill to attach brackets ?

81 and up use face screws into horizontal rad support ? no brackets ?

So if this correct Ill need to reinstall the chrome upper piece ?
