Hi everyone.
So I ls swapped my 87 c20 to a lm7 5.3 out of an 04 Avalanche. I didn't take the trans because it was a 4x4. Everything is done. (Except this) Does anyone have a solution for the kick down (passing gear) on a drive by wire setup?
I appreciate your time.

The kickdown switch is mounted on the gas pedal bracket. One side of the switch needs power from a ignition powered source, the other goes to the terminal on the side of the trans. Stand on the loud pedal, voltage is applied to the kickdown solenoid. The kickdown solenoid opens a plunger, bleeding off a measured amount of govenor pressure to the shift valves, causing a downshift. Pretty simple.

If your truck was factory equipped with a 400, the switch should already be there. I believe this picture is for a GM A body car, but your truck should have the same switch and a similar bracket.

Oh! Drive By Wire!! Got it. What engine control system are you using? Is there a output you can control based on TPS? If so, you could use an output to control a relay providing the 12v signal to the detent solenoid. Or if the PCM can provide 12v outputs you could use that to trigger the solenoid. I’d suggest putting a diode across the wire to ground to protect the PCM from fly back voltage as the relay shuts down.

I'll call my guy that programmed my ecu and see if he can do something like that. Something when I reach wot that it sends a signal to that switch.
