Hi, i have a 1983 K10 square body with a 305 in it and i believe that the carburetor i have is the wrong carburetor as it is not cooperating with the truck

i got this truck in may of last year in bad condition the previous owner didn't take care of it and blew up the transfer case we got that fixed now i decided to rebuild the carburetor i got it mostly together but wouldn't you believe the guy also customly rigged up the choke system and i have no idea how it goes back together or even if its the right carburetor for the truck can anyone tell me how to put it back together or where i can take it to get redone
thanks

What carburetor is it? If it's a Quadrajet, it's the right carburetor. If it's not, it needs to be the right CFM. 500 is plenty for a 305 and no more than 600. If it's not a Q-Jet, you need to find what model it is and see what CFM it is. Are you sure it's the carb? Like have you checked to see if you're getting two squirts of fuel when you actuate the throttle?

Of course, but it's a Quadrajet. The same carb, in theory, can run a 265 SBC in a Tri-Five Chevy or a 454 in a 35' Holiday Rambler.

Try to post some good up close picks of the choke linkage setup. Also tell us the part number on the carb. Should be an 8 digit number starting with 17. The choke won't be too bad to get working. After that you can get on with tuning things a bit.
