Calling all gen5 7.4 experts

So I've posted here before about my situation.93 7.4 .I have it totally done now.but the oil cooler remains a mystery to all.i want to eliminate the oil cooler lines to the tranny.im installing it in a 87 v20 4 wd.can I plug or make a loop out of fittings.what thread size are they.im thinking I want to make a small loop and have it return into it self thanks all.maney different opinions but no real answers .help

Yes you COULD make a loop, I'm just curious why you'd want to. Just get a short piece of 5/15" Ni-copp and bend it into a loop.

In all my internet searching a while back for gen 5 info, there are no experts, lol. I'll be home tomorrow and can look at my cooler line fittings.

Well first of all I'm no expert LOL but I do have a Gen 5 block with the oil cooler lines like yours I pulled my lines off and the adapter. It threads into a weld in bong that I have from work we use these on the back of pontoon tubes to put the plastic plug-in to hold air. It is a pipe thread as was said on the other post. We have a tap at work for it I can get you the size on Monday if you don't find it by then

I want to eliminate the oil cooler lines on front of the oil filter.i got rid of the horizontal assembly and put the adapter on for a vertical filter

Well, my fittings are MIA. But, a regular old pipe fitting did feel like it threaded in nice. I may have been completely wrong about them being metric o-ring fittings. I just don't remember.

In the pics it looks like it would be an inverted flare. I have an oil cooler of my 89 R3500 would they be the same fittings. If so I could pull the fittings to verify.. ok I got one out..so I guess they would be metric O-ring

I have the prob figured out 3/8 pipe thread.remove the oil bypass plug in the center of the filter done deal.now I got to figure the best way to remove the bypass valve

I finally found my fittings this morning, and sure enough they are pipe thread. The one that goes in the port to the rear has a goofy looking tip on it, like it engages something in the block.

So the bypass plug is up in where the filter screws on? I though I read it was in one of the cooler ports.

Ok, I got that bypass removed from my block. After unscrewing the filter stud, there was a lot of room in there. To get the bypass out, I tried to get fancy with a clutch pilot bearing remover. But it didn't fit, so I went very unfancy and threaded in a big lag bolt. That worked well to pull it out. It actually didn't even hurt it.

So when you get yours running, hopefully you have oil pressure. If you do, then your are the gen 5 expert!
