Your going to need The flywheel, clutch assembly, Bellhousing, slave cylinder, master cylinder, possibly the crossmember (not sure about that) and a taller transmission hump with a hole in the top. Also the pedal assembly. Not 100 positive on all those items but thats what comes to mind.

The easiest would be to find a donor truck with all the crap you need. Its always possible someone has all that stuff left over from a swap to automatic, maybe an add on craigslist for specifically what you need. There is always the parts yard route, pick-n-pull has had half price deals lately.

I think in the end the most expensive stuff will be everything but the transmission. I just bought 2 different SM465's for my pickup at 150 a piece.

I tossed around this idea at one time and I know it's been done before but takes a ton of work. You'd better REALLY wanna manual tranny to put that kinda work into it. I decided I was too lazy and just stuck with my th350 :)

LMAO, yep. J Dogg, gets to choose if he gonna run an automatic, or a 4 speed everytime he gets in the truck. The dude is a genious. :roflbow:

Does sound like a lot of work, but I'd do it. However, I agree with the suggestion, find a wrecked or rusted up junk donor to make sure you have everything. So what makes you want to go to SM465 and do away with the 700r4? Although I'd rather have the 4 speed too or better yet an NV4500 5 speed, but get the right 700r4 and you can have it built to last a good long time, and even use overdrive to tow with. I intend to build one soon for a K10 with a NP208. I am going to be doing some adders and massaging to it, then give it hell to try and tear it up.

If I'm every able to start the project of putting a BBC into the 77 I'll definitely be considering a move over to a manual tranny then but I'd probably go the 6 speed route only cuz that'd be cool! :) That's going to be a LARGE project so it'll be a while but that is my dream at least :)

Same here. I want mechanical clutch. No slave cylinder or fluids.

I had a 64 GMC once, that I have every motor and transmission combo possible in it. I had T350, T400, Granny 4 speed, Muncie M21, and Muncie M22 rock crusher in, then I had inline 6, several small blocks, a big block etc. That truck was so universal the way I had it set up I could change from a Inline 6 auto, to a small block M22 in about 3 hours. Loved that truck. My best fun was a hopped up SB 400 and the M22 rock crusher, with manual clutch linkage, and that is all I ever had was manual clutch, and Hurst Competition Plus Shifter. One thing about these SM465 being bullet proof, they are tough, but with the wide ratio and inability to speed shift, if you want to race or hot rod, best to stay auto trans or go with a M21 or M22 or even the 6 spped Old 77 is talking about. Also, speed shifting isn't a wise thing to be doing with hydro clutch. You can actually move faster that the fluid can keep up when you side step the clutch, and it will get air in the lines then you lose your clutch pedal, or the piston in your slave cylinder comes to far out, then gets cocked and can't come back in. Hard to beleive, but I seen it done before.
