So I have a 1973 C20 with a 454 and it was originally an AC truck. All the parts are there except for the compressor, the compressor brackets, and a couple of hoses. Ductwork and dash switches are intact and functioning. What I need is a compressor and bracketry. Are there new or later model parts that can be adapted to this truck? I would rather not do a full aftermarket AC system and I would like to utilize what's still there if it makes sense.

Raylanr and I are doing the same thing with his C30. We are using the brackets from a 1985 and the compressor from a 1973 350 that had working A/C.

To be more clear, Is there a modern, more efficient compressor and under hood set up than buying 40 year old technology? Has anyone used an under hood kit that keeps the in dash ducting and controls?

Well, you could always go to a serpentine belt setup and use a compressor from that.

I went to the serpentine setup. I have two or three of the old compressors with brackets. If you decide to go with the old setup, and plan to head west to Phoenix anytime soon, you can have one of these.
