Putting the big block in my 84 K10 and I have to locate some pulleys. I have air on my truck, think the compressor is leaking, so while I was looking for pulleys what should I look for in A/C brackets? My 350 has the small radial type compressor, so what year BBC equipped square bodies have that type? Can I make the hoses work? I'm just hoping I don't have to go new.

Here is the assembly dwg and parts lists for mounting the AC compressor - to a 1984 version of a 454:

For whatever reason, it looks like the bracketing used with a 454 only accepts an A-6 compressor. I also checked the service manual and that seems to agree;

You must be registered for see images attach

But if your R-4 is getting tired, you'll have to change it out anyway. Just replace it with an A-6. The big issue is, I can't determine from your post whether the big block has the appropriate brackets for mounting a compressor. If it doesn't, good luck - I think those will be very difficult to source.

That's the old style compressor, I got the short one on mine. Did any of the big blocks use the shorter compressor?

I think we overlapped posts - while I was editing mine. Read it again.

I made my ac compressor brackets for my 454 and used ac lines off a suburban that cross over the radiator that I got from rock auto . but in 1986 chevy used the r-4 compressor on the 454 in a c30 but that was the only year and them brackets are imposable to find now.

Regardless of compressor, are all the lines the same where they go to the evaporator? IfI could find brackets for the long comp, I could use 1 of them and go with the hoses from Rock Auto for a suburban. correct? My P/S pump is from a 79 3/4 ton.

Mine is the shorter round one. I used to work in a salvage yard and when they came out we called them radial compressors.

You probably have many refer to as the Pancake Compressor. It's much thinner than the longer ones.
