A few months ago, I found and bought an '88 Suburban on Craigslist for $1800. The ad said it had a Jasper 350 installed about a year prior and he had the transmission set up for towing since he used it as his tow truck for his job.
I bought it to eventually replace my wife's 2007 Eddie Bauer Expedition. It's nice, but too small for a full sized SUV. The space behind the rear seat is laughable since it isn't an EL version.
There is very little rust on it. The rust on the roof just looks like surface rust at this point. It's an A/C truck, 4WD and is sitting on 32*11.5*15 BFG ATs. I drove it home just fine, but since then has decided that it doesn't want to shift out of first gear. I researched what I could and will replace the pressure control solenoid in the coming weeks when I do a transmission fluid and filter change. If anybody has another idea as to the cause, I'd appreciate it.
Plans are to do an interior restoration/customization and new paint along with getting it as dependable as it should. Later on I would like to put in a modern power train for better mileage and towing. I drove it about 80 miles last time and it got about 14 mpg.
