So, this big burb needs more range. 40 gallons is good, but I'd like to have another 10 gallons somewhere. Yes, I could carry gas cans, but if I could stuff it somewhere underneath and then pump into the 40 gallon tank as needed, that would be pretty neat. Any thoughts as to using a tank from another vehicle and shoehorning it under a burb?

Have you looked under the burb? Don't know where you think your gonna put a 10 gallon tank. You could go ultra nerd and put it on the roof. No need for a pump, gravity feed it right into the filler neck. Maybe even add some fins and paint it to look like a missile?

I pondered on looking for a tank my suburban as some of my fishing holes are very far from fuel stations. I only run single exhaust so I was going to find something that would go directly behind the transfer case. Theres a pretty big hole there for a tank.

Really in the end I think it'll be simpler just to carry gas cans. I was hoping somebody knew of a relatively straightforward way to build, but it's not to be.

Yep, have barn doors. I'll look for those brackets, might be a good compromise.
