Hello, everyone, thanks for reading

I had a bad intake manifold gasket on my 1975 K10, with a 350, edelbrock manifold, Holley 650 CFM street performer and (I think) an Accell HEI type tan distributor. After the new gasket, new radiator, oil ans filter change, I put everything back together and now it runs like trap. I have the timing retarded as much as I can (vacuum canister is hitting the intake manifold) and it starts fime with no breather or air filter on. It idles fine and sounds nice, but pings and pops like crazy when you even lightly step on the gas, even in neutral. I marked where I pulled the distributor out and did my best to line it back up to the original spot. Any ideas, guys? Any help is appreciated.

Have you confirmed tdc of piston 1(piston stop method)and made sure the rotor is pointing towards the 1 post on the distributor cap? Triple checked firing order and did you replace any ignition components while replacing in take seals?

I would also go back over the whole job. Once I spent close to two hours figuring out why my truck wouldn't start up after removing the carb. Turns out I forgot to reconnect the brake booster line....

I tried the timing light, it ran like fried trash at 12° BTDC. I figured it might be a tooth off or something. I will verify tonight. What is the best method to verify the power stroke of cylinder 1? I've heard hand crank the crankshaft until it pushes your finger away or other things like putting a long screw driver in...

I'd do the long screwdriver and keep it centered in the plug hole as to not mar the plug threads.

Yep, put your thumb over the hole and rotate the motor until you feel air pushing your thumb, then bring the mark up to zero on the tab, of course that's assuming the balancer is right and the ring hasn't moved.

If there's any doubt whatsoever do the piston stop method, it's the ONLY way to be accurate.

Alright, guys, I did the finger method (heh heh) and it looked like it was pointed at cylinder 3. Time to fire it up, I'll report back shortly.
