It should stay locked in position once the button is pressed back in place. Pics would help.

Cable is taught at wot. I can't push the adjuster back in without pushing the button.

Not yet. never got a response since i posted those pics. haven't been home either to be able to do anything

looks like the right cable?

I got mine from GM and its pretty much the same except mine looks a little beefier. I don't think you have any thing to lose by changing the cable.

But I was wondering what gears you are running with what size tires ?

cause I don't know if your numbers are to far off for shifting. But your cable should stay put after adjusting it.

These transmissions are ideal with 3:73 - 4:56 gears

current tires are 31x10.5, next week will be putting on 265/70r15's (29.6" tall, or 1.2" shorter than current). 3.42 gears.

honestly the replacement cable only looked marginally cheaper than the one that was pulled off. if i adjust the cable towards the back shorter than the WOT setting, it pulls back out. but as i understand it, it is supposed to do that. it won't go towards back unless i push the button.

i didn't have the tach until a month ago so I have no idea what they were before, but it feels about the same as what I had with the frayed cable
