So I drive an 86 with a 700r4 in it; weird, anyways the truck started to not go into gear, I figured it was the fluid and filter, replaced them both and stilll wont go into gear, it does creep alittle bit in drive but will not clunk into gear, anyone have this problem before?

no black crud in the bottom of the pan?

I would tear the old filter apart and see what you find on the inside

Sometimes you won't have anything in the bottom of the pan. If the fluid looks like mud, I'd guess that dark fluid is clutch material and you've probably burned up a clutch pack. Doesn't smell burnt huh??? Fluid looking like mud is NOT a good thing at all.
