So I know this has been beat to death on the internet but from what I've been reading it' all Toyota forums and smaller trucks. I don'
Really haul trailers or do any serious off roading. Truck actually hasnt left my garage in a long time. I got a 1982 3/4 ton 350/sm465 4.10 gears. Stock suspension.
Stock was 235/85r16. It's just a big investment and don' want to regret it. Thanks for you input.

235/85 is kind of an odd size nowadays. Going to a 265/75 is only a size increase of .8 inches. You won't even notice it.

You will have a more "normal" tire that's easier to source if you get flats in the armpit of the earth somewhere though.

2 different sets of 265 75 16s on my 74 3/4 ton at stock height (second pic has 2500lbs in the bed). They fit perfectly with no rub.

I think I'll go with the 265/75 then. I kind of got my eye on some comforser tires. They'e made in China from what I understand but for a set it' s 550$ - 600$ for their all terrain or mid terrain

What about 285/75 r16
Is that pushing it with no lift?
Truck currently has 245/75 in front 265/75 in back (just junk tires that were on it to get it home.)

Even the 265s will rub if you twist it up off roading. A rim wider than 8.5" only makes the problem worse as well
as back spacing less than 4".
But seeing you're from Saskabush... probably not a lot of twisting going on! I'm originally from Estevan and I had
tires just under 33" back then, and I got them to rub but I was jumping grid roads and ****...

The 235/85's don't seem to be all that uncommon around here. They're actually more common on duallys. My C20 has them and I like them better. I've also had a C20 with the 265/75's. I like the 235/85's better because they're a hair taller and a bit narrower. Narrower tire with less highway friction equates to a bit better mpg, and so hair taller isn't bad either when you don't have OD. Every little bit helps.

I run that size on my 2500HD, they rub a bit with the wheel cranked on that truck. I mainly run them because they are so common, otherwise I'd prefer a 255, but it's much easier to source a 285 it seems.

I know but for 235 or 265 I would liked to know if I could go a little taller and a little wider with the stock four-wheel-drive high truck

Here's my experience. My pickup always had stock 235s on it. The suburban got 265s. It was never a problem on the suburban. But following the demise of the 'burb I swapped the 265s onto the pickup. The pickup cab has some slight alignment issues and I ended up pulling the running board off one side because the tire was way too close to it. Both trucks were not lifted, but the springs were tweaked an inch or two over stock.

So I'm going to say the 265 is pretty close to the limits unless everything is perfectly straight and, pardon the expression, square. IMO you still wouldn't be safe squeezing much more tire in there.
