just signed up and am looking for a little advice on my 1973 k25 project. i'm lifting the truck 12" and putting 46x15x20 tires on it. my problem is
1) i have the 14 bolt rearend and i cant find a set of gears over 5.38. im thinking about putting a underdrive kit on, and either 4.88 or 5.38 gears but dont no alot about underdrives.
2) does anyone no what kind of back space and offset i would need to be able to run 46x15x20's. im already going to put cutout fender flares on it. just dont want to hit the springs or anything.

if anyone has any advice i would appreciate it. thanx

you list for sale items in the for sale section but you have to have more posts. You can't just sign up to sell stuff. that's why there is a min. post count or supporting members only.

Gearing is going to be the least of your issues. What do you have planned for a front axle and steering?

Not to be rude but a D44 will never hold up to those kinda tires in anything other then mall crawling unless you spend major money on it which by the time its strong enough you could have a D60

Get D60 front & rear and it opens up your gear ratio options deeper than 7:1. Also if you want to run a doubler you can use this gear ratio calculator to find out what your speeds/rpms will be...
http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html
For your crawl ratio figuring in miles per hour using the feet per second measurement the calculator spits out, take the fps number, multiply by 60 for minutes, multiply by 60 again for hours, then divide by 5280 feet in a mile, and you get your MPH.

C4 also wasn't running 46's.

46's need a d60, even a mall crawler with a tire that big could easily break a d44. Also need crossover steering. Without it you would need a drop pitman, a drop drag link (those suck), and steering arm block (for d60) and that's not a very good steering setup at all.

I ran 10 bolt front with 38s and wore stuff out constantly. D44 isn't a great upgrade over a 10 bolt so I dont expect it to live long with 46s.

Hey Eugene, The doubler won't work on a everyday driver even with 46" tires it's to low of a gear for the street. What are you going to use the truck for?

I didn't see it above so for the sake of saying it out loud... 5.38 is the lowest ratio available for a 14 bolt.

While a D60 is a great front axle and will allow you to get lower gears, I would recommend a D70 for the rear. For a tire that big a rear D60 is still fairly small, most unmodified rear 60's have 1.3" 30 spline axles. A D70 will hav 1.5" 35spline axles and a bigger gear set.
