91 Suburban service engine light came on and engine stopped

I’ll chime in here too and vote for something spark related. Had my tbi wagon do this a couple years ago: failed in the driveway, restarted sometimes, ran for periods of time sometimes. I thought it was fuel pump but it was a failing distributor. You could be looking at that or the coil -...

    Bucket Seat Rebuild or Replace?

That’s right - I always liked the different bolstering and padding on those later seats. Not a huge deal, just a preference.

TBI rough on a warm or hot restart

Maybe having a wide and kid makes me too quick to assume I'm just wrong :)

Well, not the first time I've been wrong. Today.

TBI rough on a warm or hot restart

Hi All - bringing this thread back with an update. I crawled under and replaced the fuel filter, did a fuel pressure check at the same time. It's running about 12ish, I guess I'd rather have 14+ but I guess that's okay? The thing that confuses me is that I thought the pump was supposed to...

    Agreed- coming together very nicely.

Show me your 8 lug wheels!

Thanks guys - I found those caps over on ebay a while back, they've grown on me. I replaced the sagging rear springs with HD springs, that reset its ride height, I think it's come together well.

Show me your 8 lug wheels!

So ... do wheel covers count in this thread? Found these and decided to give them a shot. I 'think' I like them, I kept the originals of course. Untitled by Lineswest, on Flickr

TBI rough on a warm or hot restart

Thanks for the advice guys, and no, there are no codes. I'll start running through the list of options starting with fuel pressure and spark timing. I've never done the fuel filter so that's a no brainer to go after regardless. How do I tell if I have a good quality spark? Under load...

    Retro looking new Chevy trucks

Nice looking '77 - and I do kind of like the retro paint on the new one. A little bit of thought on the body lines for their next version and it could really catch on ... again. What happened to two tone paint jobs anyway? I feel like those are due for a comeback.

TBI rough on a warm or hot restart

Hi All, I'm looking for some ideas on this one. The 454 in my R20 is running great, I've finally chased down all of the random stuff that it needed after I found it in Texas a couple years ago. Now I'm just left with this problem: When it's hot, and turned off for a little while, it...

HD or "normal" 3/4 rear leaf springs

Good point. I'll let it go do its job.

What have you done to your square lately??

Spent $60 and gave the r20 a new MAP sensor. Replaced the $20 one I bought that was a no-name, running great again. Should'a bought the Delco in the first place.

HD or "normal" 3/4 rear leaf springs

Thanks for the link, great resource. I had run across it before, totally slipped my mind it was there. I'll get the HD springs on it and put her to work.

HD or "normal" 3/4 rear leaf springs

Right - I'm seeing the reduced leaf count option too - I'm thinking that's for a 1/2 ton as well.

HD or "normal" 3/4 rear leaf springs

Okay, thanks for the input. I went diggin, found option YD6 : REAR SPRING, BASE EQUIPMENT So if I go HD, then it won't be stock... but according to the websites, the HD springs have the same leaf count as the normal ones. I'll do a little more double checking, might go HD anyway, it's going...

HD or "normal" 3/4 rear leaf springs

Hi Everyone, I'm going to fix the driver-side lean on my R20 and get the load height back up. I've got a choice of either the normal springs or the Hd springs...

    R20 Stock Ride Height?

You're right - forgot about that. Had larger tires on the old 1/2 ton that weren't the old factory P235s. Good point.

    R20 Stock Ride Height?

Thanks, I know already now it has sagged some. No way it is higher than my old 1/2 ton v1500.

    R20 Stock Ride Height?

Hi All, I'm trying to decide how "saggy" my rear springs are in the '88 suburban (probably a bad joke in there somewhere ...). Anyone have a good idea of what the frame heights should be front/back? It's a 2x4 3/4 ton. I can't seem to find the right specs. Thanks

What have you done to your square lately??

Our local dealer said they didn't want to touch anything older than about 2006. I was floored. Obviously no need to use them for anything ever again, but seriously...

    TBI problems

Good luck, the distributor on the wagon was the last shot before doing the same thing. Luckily it was the problem. Strange that it fires ok with direct gas. But then I swear I was being lied to by my tbi which led me to the fuel pump first and then eventually back to the distributor
