It occured to me that it may not be getting enough air and wondered if the auto-therm on the snout of the air cleaner was not working properly so I just flipped the lid on thte air cleaner.     Yes, the secondaries are held shut. I actually unpluged the vaccum line and drove the truck. It seemed to do better, I put the footfeed to the floor and the truck took off like never before, but the next time I tried it on same drive it started doing the same thing again.
