Is the switch gone or the lock cylinder or ?????
Got a pic????
I wouldn't swap a column for either of those two parts.

The whole key switch/cyl is gone. I kind wanted a tilt column so.......

Easy answer one from another square. But with a pic of the carnage we can see what your working with.

yea I found that. I have seen some with late model steering wheels, maybe they just changed the wheel?

That would be my guess as well.

so little plastic half gear piece that pushes the rod is there, but I'm not sure if it's broke or not. I can stick some needle nose pliers in there and start the truck, but I am not sure if something is missing or what.

Being that you can start the truck from where the key cylinder should be tells me that all you need is the key cylinder and keys, which you can buy from autozone for around $15 i believe it cost. comes with 2 keys btw. If you had to actually pull the actuator rod partway down the column that engages the ignition switch contacts and nothing moved where the key and cylinder should be then it is a broken rack and sector gear which will probably require a new column unless you can somehow find those parts. to change or add (in your case) a new key cylinder requires you to pull the steering wheel and lock plate (some kits come with tools for both), turn signal switch/cancelling cam etc.. not hard just annoying. good luck man
