I've got an '82 SWB and am working on the interior at this point. I was wanting to remove the metal dash so I could take it to the painter. After looking and seeing there are 4 bolts, 2 on each side, I saw the front of the dash sits to what looks like underneath the winshield gasket. Is it a PITA to take the dash out or should I just take the whole truck to the painter? Thanks in advance.

I would either just rattle can it with it in the truck or take the whole truck up there to the painter. If you know what you doing you can do a pretty nice job with a rattle can for simple stuff like interior pieces and it's extremely cheap :waytogo:

Thanks for the quick reply! I was gonna go with the rattle can method but after talking to the painter he showed me a beautiful red that I want to paint the top part of the truck. So I guess I'm gonna go ahead and just take it up to him to paint the lower dash and the back wall for now. Thanks again...!!!

I think you're right about that, Retro, but didn't say anything because I couldn't quite remember when I had my interior apart....

As I recall, the top of the dash is spot welded to the cab.

Yup, that's what I'm thinkin !!! You could drill all the spot welds, but then have to weld it back in too. Not sure where screws would come out the other side at, maybe break your windshield. I think you got the right idea to take it to the painter.
