ok folks im new this page and plan on swapping out my obviously hurt 700r4 (i know its hurt cause i abused it) for a th350. i found a reman transmission and all the help i need as far as gathering parts. the only thing i cant find that im confused on is: should i buy a th350 for 4x4 or 2wd? please help and sorry for the newbie question.
i think we came to the party to late, i just got two trannys one out of a 75 4wd, one out of a 84 pontiac. the 84 is a lockup converer. now someone in an early post said the 4wd bell houseing was much stronger, i have both sitting side by side, there is no diferance in the case's except one has the plug in for the lockup coverter. but its possible the one that came out of the 4wd is not original to the truck, i cant see gm making two differant housings the great thing about gm is keeping thing interchangable. no mater what 350 you use you got to change the out put shaft, either from the spacer kit or cut down from a car tranny. from what ive read everyone seems to shy away from the lockup tranny but after gutting both and laying out side by side, the 84 tranny looks to be much stouter, evey thing looks stronger, the band is twice as wide. plus the shaft can be cut down to the proper lengh, wich means i only have to buy the spacer.
