Anyway to tell years by color schemes?

So here i am, at work, BORED. And i thought to myself, "wonder if i could tell the year or roughly the year based on paint schemes?" So i ask you guru's is there a way? cus I stair at a sexy solid light blue no two tone k20 every morning on my way to work, And i can put a few things together like it has round gas caps so older than 79 but not the 73 grill so with that can paint play a roll in the year? If not just tell me im dumb its ok.

now a day people are always repainting these older trucks it might though since color options changed a little throughout years and body styles

I agree, your probably not going to see to many square bodies with original paint anymore, and its a lot easier to guess the year by the grille, fenders, stuff like that.

There is plenty with original colors, just that they look like hell. Like mine do. All of mine are original colors.

yea but it's easier to swap a grille then it is to paint one.

I just narrow down the year range, like 73-80 and then 91-87 etc. then break down the grille by how it looks or the bumpers, that gives you a rough guess as to it's actual year.

81 and 82 are easy to tell with the lights in the bumper if they are OEM. I think we have a grill thread don't we for both GMC and Chevy? That should probably be put in the Library too.

humm yea, a year by year subtle body change forum stuff that helps pick the year. Not super important but sounds like a good tech forum.

And also around here i hardly ever see a re-painted square lol all old school and repainted but just back to origanal around here.

If you see a 73-80 body with Single Square headlights, it's an 80 for sure. And that was optional. Fairly rare. Not extremely rare, but not seen often. 80 had a few 1 year only stuff. Like all had NP205 Tcase in the 4x4's all of them, no matter 1/2 3/4 or 1 ton, or manual or auto trans. Also 80 was only year for OEM Spicer Locking Hubs IIRC. Seems I'm forgetting something else too.
