    1949 Chevy 3800 AD Dually

Bought a mid ‘70s c30 frame yesterday. Truck frame came out of Tulsa and is in pretty good shape. Has a sm465 trans with a 14 bolt rear and 16” wheels which is a big plus. Plans are to swap the cab over and step the rear with a custom 4 link and commercial grade bags to lower it and still...

It even has the original key! The engine is worse for wear but I’m not concerned about it. Now I need some warmer weather or a bigger shop to get into this thing. If they idle my plant down I’ll have something to occupy my time between this and JW.

    1949 Chevy 3800 AD Dually

Thought it was an old fire truck but clearly says GASOLINE on the side of the tank. Still neat though. My dad suggested leaving the truck and tank loaded and hauling it to our scrap yard and let them take the tank of and save myself the headache. It’s an idea but I may have some plans for...

    1949 Chevy 3800 AD Dually

I drug home this 1949 Chevy 3800 this weekend. I picked it up for scrap prices so it was a steel(see what I did there). I was on the hunt for a cab/front clip from this era and found a few but were way too expensive for the shape they were in. This has a fuel tank from the era but not...

    Old77's 1989 S10 tinkering project

I’m still baffled that it still had the factory u joint held in with plastic/fiberglass strands. Hopefully we can get it back on the ground this week.

That’s what I was doing and several bubbles worked their way to the top. I’m hoping there’s not a bubble trapped in the master.

New impact: air vs battery powered?

I mainly use my 19.2V craftsman 1/2 impact and 1/4 impact. I like them for their portability when I’m out on the farm working on equipment in the fields. I also always buy a second battery when I purchase any battery powered tools just so I can always have a backup when needed.

Need some help with tire fitment

What are you using to lower your front end? On my 87 15” stock rallies won’t fit with the 2.5 drop spindles and 2” drop spring. The wheel rubs on the caliper but only in one small section of the wheel, as if there is gunk build up on the inside of the wheel or it’s out of round. I haven’t...

87 TBI to carb swap question

When I did my efi to carb swap on my ‘87 I ditched all of the stock fuel system. I bought an in-line electric fuel pump that only puts out 4.5gph so no need for a regulator. Using a blazer tank mounted where the spare tire was, in-line pump and fuel line is all I have now.

I think I have a combination now. Front:225/45/18 Rear:255/35/20 or wider 295/30/20 That would put the 18s sidewall .5” taller than the 20s.

That’s exactly what I was having issues with when trying to pair tires. My opinion is the fronts should have a smaller sidewall while the rears have just a bit taller. Camaro still looks good btw.

Might have to I’m hoping to hit all the car shows in town and in LS when they have em. If not every Sunday it will be cruise day with the ole lady. Winter time won’t even leave the garage

I should have said a taller sidewall versus being low profile. Yessir I understand tire aspect ratios. I was using that site to compare sizes and find the right match. Which now when I think about it, The front can be 26” tall while the rear is 27” and still achieve the “cheap” gear change...

Maybe for the weekend cruiser it’ll be okay. Just rotate side to side. Front wheels can’t be wider than 8 so rotation is out of the question if I go wider in the rear. The fatter tire in the rear with skinnier front tire is an awesome look in my opinion. That’s what I am after.

Good point, I had forgotten about tire rotations.

staggered wheels on their lowered squares? I was thinking of 16/18 or 18/20 combo but cannot seem to find the right tire combination. Either the fronts have too thick sidewall or the rear tires are too tall. I’m lowered 4.5/6 and I have seen some out there but they do not lead on to what tire...

    Advice on rebuilding control arms

The ball joints are different sizes. Believe you can get a sleeve to weld into it to accompany a 1/2t ball joint. I bought a pair that I was told were for 1/2 tons and realized when I tried to put the spindle on it that it would not work. Too much work imo so I just rebuilt my stock ones.

    Advice on rebuilding control arms

It took me a week to do my lowers. With that said, I sand blasted and detailed them. Doing the bushings on the lower probably would’ve been about half a days work. If you have a press and air tools that defiantly speeds up the process. I bought new upper control arms from Summit since no where...
