Yeah, I figured that out. Also figured out that the water pump I bought doesn't cover that one hole on the passenger side that leads to the heads, so a new water pump (again) is in order. I'll get an aluminum one this time.

    Sandrocks master plan

I hated to get rid of her, but after some deep thought, it's better to get something smaller. The 'burb is just too much for the needs of myself and the family. I've already done the hard part and "erased the slate" so to speak. No interior, no front end, so he can go any direction he wants...

    Davbell22602 first Electolysis

Hmmm....I always thought that when you do something like this, the electrodes need to be of a dissimilar metal (maybe I am thinking electroplating instead)

Hmm...no shift relay?? Th400 Downshift Switch

If its like any of the 4T60e/65e transaxles I'm used to, it's a toothed tonering (reluctor wheel) and a magnetic pickup. Hall Effect in a nutshell.

Hmm...no shift relay?? Th400 Downshift Switch

Well, I can confirm my 1990 has the electronic speedo as I already have the cluster out. No cable going to it, so yup.... As to know when it would kick down....pretty sure through my experience with GM PCM tuning that it would know through the TPS. There are tables in the bin file that say...

Hmm...no shift relay?? Th400 Downshift Switch

Alright, found my answer.... Downshift is controlled by the PCM by closing the relay. Since my new PCM won't be able to do that sort of thing, I'll have to go to a switch on the gas pedal instead...

Hmm...no shift relay?? Th400 Downshift Switch

Positive. 700R4s couldn't be had in the 3/4 4x4s from what I recalled. Plus, the gear shift only indicated PRND21. And...it looks like a TH400, spade terminal on the driver side and all :Moon: Though I should note this is NOT the original trans. It appears to have been rebuilt, I'd say...

Hmm...no shift relay?? Th400 Downshift Switch

Alright, I'm confused (not hard to do on any given day, but even more than usual today). TH400s are supposed to have kickdown relays and a switch on the gas pedal, right? My '90 Burb has neither. Doesn't mention it in the Chiltons book I have handy, but did the ECM control downshift instead?

Still been chugging along at what seems like a crawl. On an auto-related note, the VATS module on my Bonneville decided to check out for the final time, so getting that thing back up and running took priority. Still not running yet, just diagnosed...hopefully I can bypass the module altogether...

    Sandrocks master plan

Didn't get home until 11 last night. At the front door were two packages for me  This morning I went ahead and sat the intake on top of the block to give me some confidence boosting. Noticed some things almost immediately. One...not enough room to install those CNG injectors, so...

Yeah, it's a brand new neighborhood...still in its infancy really. Only been here 3 months or so, but I already have a....reputation. Not bad mind you...several households have come over to see my work (rebuilding, detailing, etc) and one house actually wants me to detail all their rides (!)

Yeah...but the HOA wouldn't take too kindly to that sorta thing. Hell, I get funny looks when the 'burb gets pushed out of the garage on a nice day. Y'know, with it not having any front end on it and all.

Yeah, that's equivalent price. Still, that's a hella good deal considering. TBI would be the easiest and cheapest way to implement, but I've already gone so far into the TPI and PCM mods that there is no turning back. MPG would be roughly 20% lower, which would equal the same MPG I would get...

The ONG on 152 has a filliing station. That's roughly 3 miles from my home, with other stations well within easy reach. Since I'm building this to be little more than a local runner, it's easier for me to justify making it solely CNG instead of dual-fuel. The only issue would be the CNG...

Wow...3.66/gal for squirrel pee. This does not bode well. I'm actually considering making this rig CNG. Here in Oklahoma, there are tons of CNG stations, with the one in Mustang offering 88 cents/gallon equivalent. That makes the conversion almost a no-brainer.

    Engine pulling tips...

That's why whenever buying a used engine, either you pull the pan or have the seller pull the pan for inspection. If they have nothing to hide, it won't bother them any.

    Tuned Port video

I'm interested too. I'm going this route with my Suburban, but I'll be running a Corvette LSx PCM flashed with a 2002 Chevy Express bin file, and Vortec distributor. I'll need info like what throttle cable you're using and what if any issues you had with running vac lines and such.

Thanks! I plan on doing the same thing to the upper intake on the L98 setup, or paint it the same color I painted the oil pan. Since I posted the pics, I pulled one of the heads off the old busted non-sexy block. Looks usable, but wont know for sure until I drop them off at the machine shop.

Short block is done!! :grd: Finished it up this morning, last thing being done is the painting of the oil pan and mounting it. I did make one small mistake...overtorqued one of the rear main housing bolts. Before putting it on, I used a small thin coat of silicone on the gasket, so...

    VSS Signal Question

...what the VSS signal is on the later trucks? As in...is it a 2k or a 4k signal? Does the TH400 use a reluctor wheel, and is it removable/interchangeable?

VHT makes it in both red and black. Just like painting anything else, prep work is key. But unlike painting with regular paint, heat is a huge factor. It needs heat to wrinkle properly, and how much heat applied in the various stages creates a different finish. Spraying it by itself with no heat...

Alright...update time. New pistons and old Vortec rods are at the machine shop getting married...decided to use the Vortec rods since they are powdered metal, and the fact they are beefier than the rods that came with the ebay pistons I got. Traded off a 750 Holley carb that I rebuilt for...

    4L80-E Conversion Into a SB w/ SFI Vortec 5.7

I guess it depends on the PCM used. I'm basing my build off of the "0411" PCM, the same ones used in the late model Vortec 5.7 Express vans. It takes its info from the gear position encoder, and uses the MAP for load calculations. The PCM I use in my Bonneville is from a 2005 Impala 3800, and it...
