    Sm465 with 208tc and 4.10 gears

I have an sm465 transmission and 3.73 gears and 37 inch tires, 70 mph is about 2800 rpm. It's not great for cruising the hwys but it lets me drive it to and from the trails.

    1986 Chevy K10 - sucks for power :(

Sometimes its easy to overlook the obvious, you say you had it fourwheelin in sand. How's the air filter? With the timing thing I found it helps to mark the damper and the timing tab with a silver paint marker to make it easier to see.

    I need your opinions!

A sand drag motor will not be happy on the street or out four wheeling. Drag motors are built for one purpose, full throttle blasts down the track. While it can be fun that's not going to last long on the street. That's my opinion though and if the body is in as good a shape as it looks from the...

    Transmission Swap Question

The 465 is a great transmission, I would suggest trying to get the transfer case with that transmission. It should have a np205 behind it, wher the 700r4 likely has an np208. Not only will the np205 match the strength of the sm465, it will also be easier to bolt up.

Can I drive truck up to 70mph safely with just the front driveshaft installed?

I had a vibration like that but it was between 40 and 45. The transmission mount was bad and it would move sideways a little putting the driveshaft out of phase. It was on a 2x4 truck so that might be why the lower speed vibration, or yours might be motor mounts instead of the trans mount. Use...

    Transmission?

Maybe the guy at AutoZone got something stuck when he pulled the throttle blades to wot. If it was a carb motor I would say it was flooded but tbi don't work the same way. "Driving like a champ again" does that mean the shifting problem is gone and the starting issue was a one time thing?

    Transmission?

It sounds like you dont have the right cable. It should go directly between the carb or throttle body and the trans. Never goes into the firewall, that would be the throttle cable. Here is a pretty good pic, its on a tpi motor and it should go straight across on yours. I this pic it crosses...

    Transmission?

    frozen front axle

From what you say you do with the truck, I'd say look for a cucv for your parts truck. Has a Dana 60 front and a 14 bolt rear axle with a Detroit locker and 4.56 gears. They also have a 400 transmission but its a diesal so it needs some mods to work behind a gasser. Of course that's only if its...

    Transmission?

I would start with adjusting the tv cable, on the 700 r4 its not just a kickdown cable. When you had it flushed did that also include a new filter?

    Bad, bad, bad...bad vibrations

I had a vibration like that once, turned out to be a broken transmission mount.

    Look what I found....

I would start at 6 cents a pound, that way if its all junk (unlikely but possible) you won't be out anything. If you could get all three cheap enough you can put together one nice truck and have lots of good parts to sell to cover the stuff like rust repair.

    Manual Torque Convertor Lock-up 700r4

As long as its working correctly, manually controlling the tcc won't get you any more mpg. It might actually cause problems if its locked up in 2 or 3 then it trys to shift. As for temp, an auxiliary cooler will do way better at keeping the temps in line. The 700 r4 can be a fussy transmission...

How to replace power steering pump hoses w/o making a mess?

It's not that much fluid, an old turkey baster would work. Since your replacing the hoses you can pinch them off with a vice grip untill you can get it over a drain pan. If you put down the oil dry before spilling oil, its easier to clean up.

    Compression and tbi

It would probably run ok, but to get the most benefit out of head upgrade yes to all the other upgrades too. The speed density fuel injection system doesn't respond really well to changes and was designed for fuel economy and reliablity, not horse power. It can work but it might be easier to...

    daily driver locker?

I run a Detroit in the 14 bolt in my 78. It's not a daily driver but that's only because I don't want to drive it on the salty winter roads, has nothing to do with the locker. Had a few trucks with limited slip diffs and they are invisible on normal roads, but the same off road. Air or electric...

    Stalling when stopping..

The plug with room for four wire (usually only 3 wires in it) is what tells the tcc to lock up, if unplugging that stops the stalling then the problem is likely in the wiring or switches. It rules out the internal parts of the trans.

    master cylinder and booster question

Brake parts can be mixed and matched if you know what your doing. If the bore and stoke of the master cylinders are the same you shouldn't have any problems. But I don't know all the differences between 1/2 ton and one ton brake "systems." I say system because its all engineered to work...

    master cylinder and booster question

I'm not certain, but I seriously doubt they would be the same. The master is like 30 bucks at Napa. I was going to rebuild mine, but the rebuild kit was 25 and had to be ordered and a new one was 30 bucks in stock. If the camaro booster is the same dia. with the same bolt mounting pattern it...

    Murdered out? Too common now?

One and two look good, still lots of chrome on both. Three while a well done paint job looks unfinished, like one of those tuner cars that got a big ground effects kit slapped on it and now they're saving up for a paint job. And you hit the nail on the head with the others. That astro could've...

    which wheels to pick?

If your going for the stock look keep the theme consistent and use the stock cucv rims with stock dog dish caps. If it were mine though I would do the hurricanes with knobby mud tires that stick out to far and throw rocks at the smug prius drivers. But that's just my opinion.

new style power steering pump with old style steering box

I have the exact same set up on my 78, I got a stainless braid hose with adapter fittings. It was years ago and I can't remember if I got the part from jegs or summit but it was easy to cut to length and hasn't had a leak in years.

    Questions on broken np205

Your in Wisconsin, up here if the body isn't rusted out everything else is easily replaced. If you do go look at it I would look carefully at the frame, the sm465 and np205 are really tuff parts so it takes some serious abuse to break them.

    Murdered out? Too common now?

Entirely black is no good, either flat satin or gloss. There has to be some contrast even if its just some light pinstripe. IMO the 73 to 79 bodystyle looks great with the factory two tone and all the chrome. Leave the "murdered out" look to the rat rods and teenagers with rattle can paint jobs.
