SM 465 locked in neutral -

Quite possible to knock your stick out of "time" or proper location in conjuction of the shift forks. Basically, I had to remove the shifter, take a screw driver and pry the shift forks back into neutral postion, reinstall shifter and back to swapping gears.

    MPG

I'm getting around 6 mpg with my 489. I built it to come alive 2500 -6500 rpm, and that's where she stays 90% of the time. I base it off how many smiles per gallon not miles per gallon though!

Have you swapped a 350 for a 454? Advice needed

I must not be as hip as you hoss. But to answer you, thus was the case when I dropped my 489 in my truck. Plugged the waterpump off and at an idle it ran 20 degrees hotter then with the bypass hose installed.

    Break in procedure

Fill it with water at first then you drain once you shut her down it so if there is any minor leaks around threads, like head bolts going through water jacket or water pump bolts, it will flash rust and seal them.

    Break in procedure

Do you feel confident on setting up your timing for initial start up? Local part stores will rent a tool to prime your motor. I would prime then rotate 90 degrees prime for 30 seconds or more. Continue until you complete the full 360 degrees. Once started, do not let it idle. 2500 to 3000 rpm...

Gas gauge inaccurate. bad Sending unit? Whats a good way to diagnose?

Check your ground from the sending unit. IIRC, they are 0 ohms empty and 90 full. Fill her up and check ohms one lead on the ground the other on the supply to the gauge once you are certain the ground is good.

    Vent Window Loose

There is, you have to take off the door panel and tighten the nut on the bottom of the pivot stud. It has a spring around the pivot stud to keep tension on the vent window. Word of cautuon - the vent windows are notorious for rusting out where the stud meets the frame of the window.
