    Vehicle shutoff while driving

So on 4/4/24, after getting everything all hooked up again, I started it up. Goal was to just let it idle, I did not drive it at all. Initial start up of just turning the key wouldn't keep her running. I had to give it throttle (like before) to get it to start. While running, it seemed to...

    Vehicle shutoff while driving

Last night on 4/4/24 I addressed another looming concern. This "terminal block" seems to have been done by one of the owners. It was a piece of wood somehow connected to a piece of rubber with studs going through it. Seeing the wood with burn marks on it scared the crap out of me and I never...

    Vehicle shutoff while driving

Another update: Unfortunately the problem seems to persist. I made the repairs outlined in this post and the next post. I also verified that there aren't any other wires that I can see with exposed wire showing through the insulation. Someone mentioned the orange/black wire for the 440...

    Vehicle shutoff while driving

Just wanted to provide an update. I haven't had much time to work on this. I finished getting another car roadworthy so I have some transportation. My mechanic thinks it is the distributor. He suggested to wait until better weather to do it. I noticed my battery was dated from March 2018...

    Vehicle shutoff while driving

Just so this thread isn't entirely a wall of text This is the vehicle in question. Taken in 2019 when I had a similar no electrical power issue. I bought another set of identical wheels and powdercoated them black. Thats about the only visual difference.

    Vehicle shutoff while driving

ICM was replaced 2 days prior to incident, but I'm sure it could be a bad one out of the box. Damn I'm really hoping it's not the pick up coil. I'm just not confident doing the distributor, I've never done one. I know it's just nuts/bolts and aligning/inserting it correctly, but there's...

    Vehicle shutoff while driving

Normally, no I don't recall blowing an ECM fuse. Originally when I got it in 2018 I had loose, live wires that blew some radio fuse but not ECM. Since addressing those, I've not had any issues with blowing fuses. I also drove it home perfectly fine after the shutoff incident, however I will...

    Vehicle shutoff while driving

First time it shutoff going downhill it was 1/4. I usually fill up at the 1/4 tank mark anyway, as I mainly drive this on the highway. I thought that being too low on gas maybe it sucked up some air in the lines. This is because I got a 40 gallon tank and I'm not sure if factory was the 31...

    Vehicle shutoff while driving

INCIDENT LOG 11/20/2023 I was driving the vehicle in stop and go traffic to get it inspected. It ran normally, temps/oil pressure were normal operating parameters. Gas gauge said 1/4 tank full. Drove downhill, not a steep grade by any means, and the vehicle shut off. It did not sputter...

    Vehicle shutoff while driving

Hello there, I had a bit of a weird shut off while driving, happened to me twice on my way to get the suburban inspected. This has never happened before and I wanted to see what theories you guys may have. 1990 GMC Suburban 5.7L TBI gasoline 700R4 4x4 THEORIES 1. BAD WIRE CONNECTION TO...

Equal - Tire Balancing Beads, No weights to Lose

Just to provide an update, my tires are pretty nice. Annoyed that I caught a nail literally 1 week into having this setup. But most of my driving is highway, and this is a smooth setup. I use this mainly to go upstate so it's about 90 miles highway and 5 on gravel/dirt. It's smooth even...

Equal - Tire Balancing Beads, No weights to Lose

Just to give an update : I did get my powdercoated wheels and I ended up just getting all new BFGs on. For the cost of $1100, knowing that I'm on good tires and not some crappy chinese tires it was worth it. I'm usually with my dogs most of the time in my burb and it's just not worth it. I...

    Wheel spacers

I don't want to start a new thread with the same thing, but how do you guys feel about the slip on 1/4" thick spacers? I have some wheels ( 3 sets of identical wheels in 15 x 8 + 0 ) and I'm really close to the tie rod end link on the front. The wheel is so close that if I have stick on weights...

Equal - Tire Balancing Beads, No weights to Lose

I'm glad to hear it's working out for you. Hmmm, well I hope by the time I hit highway speeds in winter that the beads heat up and stay loose. I'm definitely trying this on some old General Grabbers that I want to kill before I get me some BFGs. I also wanted to quote something you said...

    Stuttering/Hesitation/down on power & I kinda got electrocuted a little ;(

Mileage is 176,*** miles. It's got the 6 digit odometer so I know that for sure. No idea on if/when previous owners ever changed out the distributor. I definitely need to change that out. I'm really hoping the chain is ok, I've been very good about changing oil every few months, whether or...

    350 tbi idle speed

A lot of what you are describing sounds very close to what I had going on. Mine would normally cold idle at 1200 rpm, hot it would come down to 800 or so. Ran smothly. Then I had my cyl 5 or 7 plug wire touching the exhaust so it burnt up. It was not holding a steady idle. First it...

    Stuttering/Hesitation/down on power & I kinda got electrocuted a little ;(

Hey folks, I wanted to provide an update on this. On friday I changed the spark plugs and wires. No change. Saturday I changed the distributor cap, rotor, and ignition module. At this point, the air filter assembly is removed so it ran perfectly fine. I also noticed a hose was disconnected...

    Stuttering/Hesitation/down on power & I kinda got electrocuted a little ;(

Thanks for the replies folks. Definitely going to get the new wires put on this weekend. If not then new plugs. If not then the new distributor rotor and cap. Kind of strange to get so many different lengths from the wire kit. One would assume there would be 4 lengths, with 2 of each. 2...

    Stuttering/Hesitation/down on power & I kinda got electrocuted a little ;(

Hi there folks, So I am diagnosing some issues with my Burb and could use some help. Prepare for the shitshow. It is a 1990 GMC suburban with the 5.7L/350 backed by a 700r4. Out of all my cars, that is the last running vehicle I have right now. Everything else is down for some kind of...

Equal - Tire Balancing Beads, No weights to Lose

I might need to try this. I just got one of my spare wheels balanced and the weights they put on are hitting my tie rod end. Infuriating as my other wheels don't do that, and it ended up being a waste of $20 to get that one wheel balanced.
