What new tools have you got lately?

That, my friend, is brilliant! I'll be making my own very soon. Thank you.

    GVW

You should pay the GM Heritage Center a visit and download the data books for your truck. If you wade through that you'll be able to decipher all the VIN, SPID and other documents for your specs and options.

That wasn't under water, was it?

New For Me 1985 Silverado 20 6.2 Diesel

Usually "winter blend" is a lot of kerosene. I've had it happen on a couple of occasions from an unexpected cold snap, right around 15° every time. After that I started using additives in the winter. Somewhat more recently, like twenty years recently, I started using additives all the time...

What have you done to your square lately??

Same here. We put a seat cover on ours from almost day one. Except for a seam split the original upholstery is perfect. When the truck gets redone it's getting fabric upholstery. And a seat cover.

    4wd indicator light wiring

In my experience, it won't last. Hope your experience is better than mine. :(

700R4 started shifting really high RPM

Again, there's WAY better transmission guys here than me, and it's been a long time since I've had my hands in a 700R4, but IIRC, the cable moves a lever that pushes up on the valve. So, if the valve sticks the lever returns and the valve stays put. Thus the transmission thinks you're at WOT and...

700R4 started shifting really high RPM

My guess would be that the throttle valve itself is stuck. So it's shifting on the governor, not throttle position. I believe there's a kit available with an assist spring to push the valve back. There's much better transmission people here that can probably direct you to thr correct item.

Which A/C compressor do I have?

My '85 K20 has a DA6 and when I swapped the diesel into my '86 Suburban I used the same setup. It worked reliably for as long as I owned the truck. The Suburban had rear A/C too and the DA6 was fine. I believe they switched from the D6 to the DA6 around 1983 or so. One could do a little...

Which A/C compressor do I have?

Yours is a DA6, and the one you're looking at is an A6. It's a better compressor, but it's also much bigger and won't fit your brackets.

Small block be big block engine pedestal

The above is correct. Yes, but no. Things will bolt up, but it won't be what GM intended. I had the same issue with the diesel swap. Bigger motor mounts and different perches.

Clamp on roof rack? I'm feeling rather horny.

It's the hidden horns. I'd bet money he's one of the a-hole mall crawlers that sneaks up on people and thinks it's funny when they're scared by the horns.

    1986 K10 wheel 4x4 decals/inserts

Auto locking hubs had a 4X4 logo on them. Usually the aftermarket ones are for the rallye wheel caps and are too big for the auto hubs. Sorry I don't have a better answer for the O.P.

Clamp on roof rack? I'm feeling rather horny.

Please tell me you're not going to be one of those blow-holes that runs those things at full pressure and goes around scaring the cr@p out of people with train horns. We've got a few of them around here and I'm seriously trying to figure out where to find them and bring my own train horn to the...

Dash Brake light comes on after a couple minutes of driving

Mine has a defective switch on the combination valve that has similar symptoms. I'd just try disconnecting the wire on the valve and see what it does.

Oil pressure sender switch and coolant sender what type of thread sealant to use since your not supposed to use Teflon so it can ground correctly

Gasoila is the red stuff that's usually used on fuel systems and often shows up on pipe threads on senders. However, it's not exactly in every store. It's pretty common to use pipe joint compound that can be found in any home store. Teflon tape is okay if not abused, as others have said. I...

Did you get a scare sticker too? If they made them into belt buckles I bet they could sell a bunch.

What new tools have you got lately?

Clearly I've gone on a shopping binge. A friend recommended a Power Probe since I've got a lot of vehicles with electrical problems lately. There was a choice of just the probe, or for an extra $10 I could get the fancy one with the blow-molded case. I'm a sucker for tools that come with a...

What new tools have you got lately?

While not fitting the strict definition of "tools," I would consider these to be some of the most important tools in the shop. About $46 from Rot Auto: I had picked up a set of manuals for the Corvette from them too. Printed by Detroit Iron, they are licensed reprints and the quality is...

    R12 Replacement

I'd read the fine print quite closely. It's probably propane or something similar. Real R12 is still hard to come by and expensive.
