    sounds like you have a loose axle tube. sometimes the plug welds let loose. There is no seal , they are press fit and then welded. your best bet will probably be to replace the whole assembly.

    the fact you have one window that works basically verifies the ground and power are good. probably dirty switches. squirt some wd40 in them and work them back and forth several times. They alternate the power and ground so both switches have to work for each window.

    take a can of wd40 hose down the switch and get as much in it as you can then work the switch back and forth several times. you would be amazed how often this brings back a dead switch.. can do this with the switch still in the door.

    there's also vin numbers stamped on the frame in various hidden places. if they dont match the vin plate you could have an issue some day.

    Does it have any value? I would say as old as our trucks are most any part has some value to the right person. Is it worth switching to gauges? I prefer gauge, just realize it's more than just plug and play, the wiring and sending units are different.

    Your truck will run on 15.5. But you will shorten the life of things like your ignition control module, light bulbs and battery. pushing 15.5 volts into your battery in the middle of the summer will be real hard on it. I think going to a higher Amperage alternator is your best bet.
