What U-bolts are you guys buying?

I’ve noticed the custom u bolts and hardware from spring shops seem to be heavier duty and better quality than parts house store stuff

    Ball Joints Too Tight

I chain the axle housing to a floor jack and use it to put pressure on the lower joint when needed. It helps the tapered studs get seated, and is really helpful when the studs want to rotate during the torquing process. If you’re building a daily I’d recommend driving down a washboarded dirt...

    GMC Grill

Welcome to the forum and good luck with the grill hunt! I purchased the AMD repop for my build, looks like it is someone else’s product but I trust AMD wouldn’t market junk. It looks great! This is my third one in the life of the truck, when I bought the first 2 replacements from the dealer...

    bow tie for c10…

Have the bow tie that fits your grill painted to match your theme. In my opinion if you try to just stick one from another year on there it will look like a cheap knockoff. Use the one that fits right.

Front end grinding when hard accelerating

That’s the u-joint, the centering ball grease fitting is similar to this one. It’s usually buried way up in the center of the double cardan joint

Front end grinding when hard accelerating

Centering ball is inside of a double cardan joint, they are often overlooked when greasing. Many of them are greased using a needle and the zero is recessed in the assembly. Was the noise there before the lift and before the transfer case drop? That’s possible, how did you tighten them?

Front end grinding when hard accelerating

Did you do driveshaft or axle u-joints? or both? Does your front driveline have a double cardan joint? was it rebuilt too? what condition was the centering ball in? Is the truck lifted? If so what do your pinion angles look like? One test that can be done is to pull the front driveshaft to...

    Goodyear Military sand Performance?

^^^^ This I wouldn't air down 16.5's too much, the shape and style of the beads on 16.5's lend to them coming unseated easily when compared to 15's or 16's.

    1980 Roundeye GMC

They must not have been a common option in my neck of the woods, almost as rare as the hands free parking brake release in that truck lol

Yeah…. Someone on here referred to it as a squircle when I did my introduction. Not my terminology, I officially plagiarized the term for my build thread.

Wow… that’s a great write up, I wish I had that last year when I built my column

    Column issues

Those are minor issues, The ignition cylinder could be worn or someone could have broken it at some point trying to start it without a key. Can you pull the key out of the cylinder regardless of what position it’s in? The ignition cylinder is also directly connected to the steering wheel lock...

    Help

Probably… trace the wires on the other side of the firewall to be certain before you do.

    1980 Roundeye GMC

That’s cool, I never knew inside hood release was an option before ’81. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one on the older trucks but every ‘81 and newer have all had them. I always assumed it was a change that came with the new front end. Dang…. That’s pretty cool, I don’t think it’s worth $50 for...

    1980 Roundeye GMC

I hope you didn't scrap the square headlight bezels... The only reproductions available are plastic, my only option was to have mine repaired and re-chromed. Chrome for 2 bezels and 2 bumperettes was $900.

Front edge of hood sitting high.

The newer hoods have a flat nose, the "rib" in the center of the good dies into it instead of wrapping all the way to the edge. Best picture I have is upside down LOL but here is the flat nose hood

    Help

Looks like the plug for dual tank switch... Mine was on the other side of the brake booster though Just to the right of the throttle cable

    Column issues

Also… If the tilt portion is loose and can be wiggled around you might as well just plan on breaking the whole upper section down and fixing it. They can wreak havoc on the ign rod and rack when they get like that. It’s a major job to break it down this far so don’t plan on doing it in a few...

    Column issues

Tilt column are a lot of work…. Connections- 1) the long skinny one is your turn signal/horn harness 2) one bolts on the top (left) of the column that’s the ignition switch 3) should be one down near the firewall right on top, that’s the neutral safety switch/back up lamp switch The key...
