The wisest way to modernize a C20

Well I quite agree and I wouldn't call all of my modifications modern. Like the running boards I intentionally searched out a pair of running boards that were old so they'd look correct. My homemade shelf. Here it is right after installation. Sure is nice to have that bit of space to put my...

Lawn/ Garden tractors/ Riding Mowers, Cool Mods and tinkering

Ya, It's going to take some running I'm sure. What I haven't mentioned is that when I first got it, it was stuck. I didn't try putting massive bar on it, but just a standard length ratchet with the spark plug removed I couldn't get it to turn over. I soaked the inside of the cylinder with...

Lawn/ Garden tractors/ Riding Mowers, Cool Mods and tinkering

Wired up the fuel pump and with a little huff of starting fluid she fired up! Took a load of wood to the house with it even. Sure has a lot more power than the 12 horse on the other tractor! Need to get all the engine covers and such back on and she'll be in service!

Lawn/ Garden tractors/ Riding Mowers, Cool Mods and tinkering

And my project. I was given this tractor. It was in a shed at a rental property. IDK much about it. It's obviously low hours, but it's sat for a long time. I've gotten it to crank over. I've rebuilt the carburetor and it'll run on starting fluid. I cannot get the pulse fuel pump to work...

Lawn/ Garden tractors/ Riding Mowers, Cool Mods and tinkering

@squaredeal91 Thanks for starting this thread. I'm sure that I will post in it occasionally. So here is my "main" lawn tractor. So on the farm I have an actual tractor and then this. I use much like most folks would use an ATV. It's got a blade on the front for pushing mud and chicken poo...

    What Classic Insurance to get?

I'm with allstate and have been forever, being able to suspend coverage on rarely used vehicles has been really nice. However even though both me and my wife have squeaky clean driving records, our rates have been creeping up. For vehicles like my 77' Cadillac it makes sense to keep it with...

Are rubber valve cover gaskets JUNK? Pic inside

Yes they do and what's the other one..... Gasgacinch... All great products I just can't tell much a difference between any of them other than 3M comes a in squeeze tube and those gasket sealants have a brush. I have used both and they all seem to work fine.

Are rubber valve cover gaskets JUNK? Pic inside

It's just a thin line of 3M weather strip adhesive, and like with RTV you don't want to slop it all over the place, but it's fine if used correctly and it does a VERY good job of holding gaskets in place and keeping them sealed on that side. The biggest down fall to me is it's a PITA to get it...

Are rubber valve cover gaskets JUNK? Pic inside

To actually answer your question, I've never had good luck with rubber gaskets on tin covers, I'd go back to cork.

Are rubber valve cover gaskets JUNK? Pic inside

It seems to me that like engine oil everyone has a different opinion of what is best. There's rubber gaskets, there's rubber gaskets with metal in the middle so they can't be pushed out, synthetic rubber, there's cork / rubber composite gaskets, then there is cork 5/32" or 7/32", there so many...

    Heater Core question

I've heard great things about the copper / brass units from Summit AFTER I replaced mine with an aluminum unit from Orielly's.

Seat covers, looking for recommendations - later in the thread reports on how my cover is holding up

I know right! And so do the miles! I realized about 2 months ago I've been racking up just shy of 20K annually on the square! As much as I have enjoyed daily driving it, knowing that was one of the main factors when I decided that I'd be keeping the MDX given to me in January from a shop...

Seat covers, looking for recommendations - later in the thread reports on how my cover is holding up

Two years and one month later this is how my $40 saddle blanket seat cover, made by seat covers unlimited and purchased on amazon is holding up. As you can see 2 years of heavy use. This truck has been my daily driver to the shop in the city 4 days a week, it goes on feed hauls for the farm...

    Busted Alternator Bolt

@C10_Blackie Will it make it to the shop is a hard thing to answer, but @DoubleDingo gives good advise. If the battery is charged up and you run without lights and heat you won't drain the battery and will minimize load on the belt. My concern would be the bolt backing out and hitting the fan...

    For the Handicapped

My knees are terrible. I have running boards on my truck and A-pillar grab handles. The handles make a big difference for me as I can use them to help me pull myself up and take some of the pressure off my knees. Check this thread >>>>...

Spongy brake pedal tightens when braking in reverse before going bleeding back down

Not sure how helpful I can be but I will try first off though: I think people change them because they don't understand how they work. Basically they are just a metering block, so the most common thing is they plug up with little chunks of rust if the fluid isn't flush and kept fresh from time...

Charcoal / vapor / evap canister, how it should be set up and other information

Good short explanation, but I'm also going to add that the charcoal canister makes the vapor system a closed system. If you eliminate it, then you have to vent the tank(s) to the atmosphere, which is likely to make your truck smell like gas at times, but more importantly it keeps moisture out...

    2003 Acura MDX

I've never had a very good memory so I keep one of those small pocket sized spiral bound note pads in each vehicle that I write the date, mileage and service performed on. I keep it in the glove box. That's actually something my Dad taught me to do when I was a wee lad.

    Smog thoughts

Ya, this. please do this, some people like to have their emission system fully functional, and in some areas that stuff is required to license the truck and some of that parts are made of unobtainium.

    2003 Acura MDX

One of my-self rules is that I won't own anything I find to be to big of a PIA to work on. If I felt that way about the MDX it would have had a for sale sign in the window right off. For me, I sometimes can really enjoy working on my own rigs, but on the flip side sometimes I need the vehicle...

    2003 Acura MDX

Did the spark plugs today. To early to drink, but it would be a 1 whiskey and coke job or 1 beer, for you beer drinkers. About 45 minutes, and since it is a V6 a guy could get in 2 drinks. Do the back plugs drink a whiskey and coke, get a refill and do the front ones. The old plugs look just...

    Show your daily driver

I've got another thread going on on my new daily driver, but since posted in here previously regarding my DD I figured I should update it. So my 1996 GC was suppose to be my daily driver, but in all reality I daily drove my 84' C20. 2ish weeks ago I was given a practically pristine 2003...
