396 with Edelbrock 1406 running issue

Thanks man. I've torn it apart twice in the 31 years I've had it & getting ready for round 3. My 396 is tired but still fires. I have another to replace it along with some new fenders & hood. I love my old car & feel like the 18 year old that resurrected it each time I drive it. Thanks for...

Nv4500 ‘rattle’ between acceleration and deceleration…

I'd rather have the slip yoke as opposed to the CV. I don't think that clutch adjustment (minimal) would be a culprit either. IDK what the issue could be if it were not present upon conversion. Keep us posted should you find the issue. HS

Nv4500 ‘rattle’ between acceleration and deceleration…

Has your truck got 3.07 gears? These trannies were in front of 3.42 plus gears in OBS trucks. That may be an issue but I'm not certain. Just fishing. The internet police will find me out soon... HS

396 with Edelbrock 1406 running issue

It is a factory '69 396. Still has the GM stamping on the bearings. I pulled the rear main back in '00 & put in a new rear seal, timing chain (replaced factory Morse) & oil pan gasket. I drive it a few times a week now but it's getting a healthy appetite for oil as of late. Must have something...

396 with Edelbrock 1406 running issue

I've been running a 1411 Edelbrock on this girl for over 20 years. 1406 is 600 CFM & 1411 is 750 CFM. WOT it will still give out, it's not a 800 CFM Q-jet or a double pumper Holley. It is very reliable tho.

    Transfer Case Issue?

Welcome to the party from NC! Sounds like a 73-79 NP203 by your description. Shift the case all the way to the seat & then back forward a click. That should put you in 2HI. These cases get sloppy over 50 years of use & are notorious for jumping out of 4x4. HS

Clear coating over patina: anybody done it?

I see a lot of "shine-ola" & "pimp juice" products being used as well as matte clears. I do not use any of that stuff because it makes for much more work later on when you're actually fixing the rust-bucket. Folks rub a bunch of silicone & oil based products on it's almost impossible to remove...

What have you done to your square lately??

Yeah, 30 years ago weeds wouldn't be growing around them because I'd work on them thru the midnight hour. Now...NOT! Slumbering

    Sagging front springs?

If you look at vintage GM advertisements the springs are like that new. They will settle over time & you'll find most will have the kingpin broken or wallow the anchor hole in the differential upon disassembly. Its not uncommon to have one side higher either. I like a lifted Square but LOVE the...
