Most of the original gel coat has either baked off or was sanded off before the white was sprayed on. I’m going to let it be for the summer and see what happens. It’s already brightened up a little bit hitting it with the polisher but it’s seen better days. If the blotches would clear up, it...
Thanks! It’s great to have cup holders front and rear along with storage and a 6th seat!
I’m also getting front and rear custom made leather seat covers, for an additional $100 they are making matching cover for the center seat so all I’ll have to do is paint the plastic black or tan and...
I used my orbital buffer with wool pad on the gel coat after the 205 polish. It certainly helped give it some gloss.

Happy I don’t have to see the old white spray paint streak off down the side of the truck every time it rained or morning dew.
I actually used the oven cleaner to restore some eagle alloy wheels that were terribly neglected for 10+ years. It worked great to get all the corrosion off along with steel wool. Then polished with mothers and they still had a great shine. Oven cleaner certainly dulled the aluminum but they...
Overspray Ray (previous owner) had painted the door mirrors white so there is already some white I need to get off the doors but it’s pretty baked on and not too noticeable so leaving that for now. I might try one of those wipe on clear coats on the fiberglass cap. It would at least leave a...
Paint is definitely soft. You can see where the oven cleaner and white run off stained the truck paint very lightly in spots but can only notice it up close. Warning if anyone else does this. I wouldn’t do it on a dark color.
Still looks great from a feet away and it’s got plenty of flaws...
It’s better than the flaking / peeling white that was on it but is blotchy in spots. I bet it is gel coat. I’ll probably just run it like this for awhile. If I get it repainted I’m afraid of it looking too new of paint to match the original metal paint that 40 years old on the rest of the truck...
Mine was originally body color according to the spec sheet in the glove box. Got almost all of the white off. Now need to try and brighten up the original tan. I’ll try some compound a polish if the roughness doesn’t tear up my buffer or wool pad.
Update: oven cleaner is doing the job. Spray on, let set 10mins It will turn yellow after 5mins. Don’t leave on longer than 10min. Keep factory metal paint below cap wet and scrub off oven cleaner and white spray paint with blue scotch bright. Will need to compound factory metal paint to shine...
Previous, previous owner 20ish years ago painted the Doeskin tan cap white and some of it runs off when wet so I’d like to ideally remove what’s left of the white and restore the original color.
What can I use to remove the chalky spray paint and not harm the original tan underneath?
Tried...

“ PURPOSE A heated intake air system is used to give good driveability under varying climatic conditions. By having a uniform inlet temperature, the fuel system can be calibrated to reduce exhaust emissions and to eliminate throttle blade icing.”
Thanks for posting that. I’ll leave...
What is the purpose of this ^. It’s just siliconed to the air cleaner. I removed it and no drive ability issues. Cold starts just fine. Pretty sure this thing was gone when TBI came out in ‘87 on trucks.
The heat tube that comes off the manifold is gone and the vacuum operated door disconnected...
I swear removing that thick inner metal mesh filter / screen has helped. I’ll leave the rest alone. Thanks for all the replies!
When the 305 gives up the ghost I’ll swap to a 96-99 vortec 350 small block or a 5.3 LS.
I may cut off the plastic plate behind the grill so I get sort of a ram air effect. Instead of it pulling air from the sides behind the grill. Guess I’ll leave the metal plate inside the filter so it redirects the incoming air to around the rest of the filter. I was suprised how tall the stock...
I already added dual exhaust to my ‘86 K5 with LE9 305. Stock numbers are 160hp @ 4k rpm and 235tq @ 2k rpm.
I removed the very restrictive metal mesh flame arrestor? Which I immediately felt some hp improvement. I thought about going to the standard open element air cleaner but I like that...
I used this 2 1/4” kit with stock manifolds on my k5 blazer. It’s a universal kit designed to work on c10 k10, etc. this kit is for headers so getting it to work with manifolds required some cutting and welding.
Header back kit...
This bolted right into my k5 Blazer. I can now seat 6, more importantly I have a useable center console with lots of storage and cup holders front and rear. 2007.5 - 2013 Silverado, sierra, Tahoe, suburban, Yukon GMT900 generation. 2014 - 2019 K2XX are very similar and would work as well.
Any noticeable performance increase when removing the metal ring? The metal ring on my 305 stops about an inch from the top of the paper air cleaner. Seems like it really blocks the airflow but maybe the 305 is getting all that it needs regardless.
Exhaust is stinky with air pump hooked up or not. Not that I love huffing exhaust fumes but this k5 has a distinct smelly exhaust. I put dual 2.25” exhaust on it and it has a little more power vs when it had the crunched y pipe stock exhaust.
Can I just leave air pump disconnected and...
