    Changing brake fluid

For sure. Iirc you’ve had that truck for a long time. If the fluid is super old, I’d just start changing out more frequently. It’ll mix and get “dirty” pretty quick. Like every tank of gas or so. No science to it really. Reservoir full of new fluid, once it’s brown again, replace.

Response to “Caution Please Read” post

Glad you’ve found the info you need. So many extremely smart and capable squarebody folks on this site. And look that warning got you to make a post. Now let’s see your truck!

Is it possible to get this?????

Not sure I understand the title to the thread but evidently you’re asking if it’s a legit supplier. While one would think that is self explanatory, maybe someone who has no idea what it should cost and doesn’t have the motivation to check around for prices or options could be fooled. Easiest...

If you live in PA and see this truck it’s mine!

Wuz it first year, it all came off except the windshield. Then 75-80 was full removable except used truck doors. Then 81 permanently attached? That’s most of the reason I’d want an old Blazer/Jimmy/Bronco/Trailduster Ramcharger. To take the top off. Every Blazer I’ve owned was a rusted out pos...

    Changing brake fluid

^Not discounting the validity of a proper brake flush btw and sometimes it’s necessary. But in normal scenarios, it’s not necessary if you just keep up with adding fresh fluid periodically.

    Changing brake fluid

So all of these methods work and some “easier” than others. Pretty much everyone who isn’t car saavy totally neglects brake fluid. And as such it may, can, will and does last a long time and different conditions affect how much moisture it absorbs. That said, the importance of good brake...

    Changing brake fluid

Respectfully, vacuuming all the fluid out of the MC reservior and then refilling (before pumping the brakes) is not an issue and will not introduce air into the system. Done it regularly and dozens of times, Including wiping the reservoir totally dry and cleaning out the rust or crud before...

    dumfounded

Couple things to consider. You’re good to recognize the danger of a hot wired fuel pump. The way Rick said to wire it will eliminate it running with engine not spinning. Another thing to remember is you don’t want to pull any significant amperage off of existing original vehicle wiring. Any...

350 TBI Exhaust Manifold AIR System

Hahahaha no but it kinda smells like an old School bus or Cat tractor now, it’s not emitting unicorn farts out the tailpipe anymore.

That’s cool! Them old Ramchargers are awesome. Had to be 70s then because Dodge went to fully fixed not removable in the 80s, correct?

What’s amazing to me is how much it isn’t a jewel out here on the left coast. I tried to sell it for what I paid for it, then less, for better part of a year. Had NO bites at $2500 out here. Old Dodge pickups are nowhere near as popular as GMs and Fords

Ya I don’t remember, said he was an hour out of one of those cities that starts with a P, so could be E or W, idk. Waiting for warmer weather in his open air storage there to fix it. Said his daughter has claimed it for her first car when she’s old enough to drive! Gotta love it!

350 TBI Exhaust Manifold AIR System

Sage advice here. Despite my previous reply. I didn’t think of the trouble code being an EFI truck. To be fair, the last one I disabled was in like 1990 on a 1981/82 K20. And I cut n crimped the lines and took the belt off and down the road she went. Every day pulling a landscape trailer no...

350 TBI Exhaust Manifold AIR System

You can ditch the AIR system with zero ill effects afaik. It’s downstream catalyst action and will not affect engine operation. Can you just isolate the leak and fix it? It’s common to remove the air tubes and plug the hole in the manifolds. The jethro engineering way is cut the tubes and...

Actually used to be mine. Sold it to a dude in PA. Named Paul. Idk where he lives, never asked. I’m sure he will have it running and out and about before long. He sent me a pic today.

What have you done to your square lately??

I’ve heard PTC mentioned in a good way by my buddy here who is a 3rd Gen local coming from a long line of Auburn WA resident hot rodders. Fwiw

What have you done to your square lately??

Well it’ll be pinched against the gas tank so if something is hot enough to burn there, the 1/4” of tar paper peeking out from under the straps is the least of my worries. And the original stuff was basically tar paper

    How to switch from a DRW to a SRW in a 1981 K30 / 350 engine / 3 speed manual / 4x4

100% agreed. And a big part of the flavor of my response to this and similar questions is designed to help someone think about what they’re trying to accomplish without going upside down financially as happens with many “projects.” I sound like a broken record maybe but I have to refer to the...

    Sound dampening

I can see where that may be a concern in a daily/work vehicle where it snows a lot. Or for someone who just doesn’t really take care of their stuff. Barring those conditions I’d call it a non issue, especially if you have a full rubber floor mat or use floor mats on the carpet. Even then, I...

While I don’t have plans to do the roofs in either truck I wondered that as well. But between yours and Hucks experience I’ll chalk it up as a non issue.

Towing with my 86.... hints, tips, essentials?

To each their own I suppose. Like you, I’ve towed a lot of different trailers, from AZ to AK and WA to WI and I’d take an equal weight flatbed with a short (height) load over most any travel trailer or even enclosed cargo trailer (albeit better than a TT usually) about 11 times out of 10. Wind...

Welcome Juan. A lot of knowledge here, you’re in the right place. That said, you go a lot going on and likely some bad guidance or ideas along the way. Starter wiring is easy. Someone will come along with a link to wiring diagrams or you can search this site. They are here. Regarding the...

    How to switch from a DRW to a SRW in a 1981 K30 / 350 engine / 3 speed manual / 4x4

While this may be a true statement wrt to the OP in particular since he has little to no understanding of what to do or even what truck he has (looks like a c&c) and likely not in the market to buy $1000s of parts and hours of labor, in general what you said has little merit IMO. If anything...

Did this K20 come factory with catalytic converter?

Agreed. And with the 5.0 transplant it likely doesn’t look totally OE under the hood (air cleaner etc). But to the OP, the engine itself physically looks the same or very similar so that’s a plus.

    Stolen!

^This. While it was easy and convenient to do on the blue truck as it has to run an electric fuel pump even though it’s carbed, I don’t cherish the thought of it getting stolen. I would like to see the reaction though if stolen and it makes it about 100 yards out of a parking lot onto a public...
