What have you done to your square lately??

Put the dash back together as I had to do more instrument cluster bulb work. New parts on order, so if this does not hold backup is on the way! On my phone, so not sure how to put text between photos. So : The carton pic is my dash screw memory aid. :anitoof: Then the amazing radio mount -...

Has anyone superglued the copper contacts down on the circuit board ?

Might be worth it. One of my prior failures- well, in all fairness I was screwed before I started with that trace being gone. I did not know - this was before I pulled the cluster. Better explanation- I cut pieces of the trace out of the old board, folded them over, and glued them to the...

Has anyone superglued the copper contacts down on the circuit board ?

@Ellie Niner - great info - thanks ! My fiber optic holder is not hard wired - I was wrong. And as best I can tell my fuse panel is all one piece with one flasher top left and one bottom right. And, the lower one has a plug with what I assume to be an aux terminal. Don't know if you can see...

Has anyone superglued the copper contacts down on the circuit board ?

Hah ha - the 3rd path ! Dunno if it will hold, but good parts are on order. Bought a soldering iron kit that had solder as I could not find a iron at Wally World and Northern Tools had irons but no loose solder. Dam worldwide shortages... :321: At any rate, here's what I did. No, I don't...

Has anyone superglued the copper contacts down on the circuit board ?

I will have to look for that radio bulb , if they did not just cut the wires. It seems like there is an orange wire loose under that area. I meant to tell you that even when all the bulbs are going full my 55 has that dim spot, too.

Has anyone superglued the copper contacts down on the circuit board ?

Just thinking more on your bypass idea - maybe using something like this and wires soldered to a bulb holder. Any ideas as to where I could tap in ? The fiber optic to the ashtray uses a hard wired bulb holder, and another thought would be the wiper switch wires. But, if there is...

Has anyone superglued the copper contacts down on the circuit board ?

A few gaps in their offerings. You are just as hosed if you have a 78 or 79 w/o tach. If I got the tach housing, I would have to get the tach, too. Then there is the question of will it work. One guy here got lucky & it was plug & play on a 79 , but ... You see my luck. :anitoof:

Has anyone superglued the copper contacts down on the circuit board ?

Yeah, you play from the underside enough and I guess they will do it ... A wired connector is not a ad idea - just have to get one. I had all sorts of engineering "ideas" - but, sine the trace on the OE in their now is gone those idea bit the dust. I guess solder wires to what I have and...

Has anyone superglued the copper contacts down on the circuit board ?

The housing is all right except this spot is one where the bulb holder fits loose in. It also appears that the 80 housing cluster W/O tach is not offered by LMC, so unless I want to spend more dough for an upgrade to a tach and then hope I dont have to repin the connector I gotta dance with...

Has anyone superglued the copper contacts down on the circuit board ?

Well, my opinion now is dont do it. I can't say for sure since I reused the OE one that needed some TLC, but I can say that after a week of flicker, die, come back, and die for good I gave up and pulled the bulb holder loose from the bottom. Well, maybe that did it, who knows, as I could...

    First for me…

I am familiar with this calamity. The brake drum, however- whoa.

Has anyone superglued the copper contacts down on the circuit board ?

Glue on the bulb holders, or the circuit board ? My external silicone job is already acting up on the LH speedo bulb which has been the problem child all along. I may tear back into it :bawl: and try some silicone on the bulb holder to the cluster housing, or even day dreamed about attempting...

    Steering Column teardown

Not sure what you mean by top half - where the turn signal switch screws into ? If that's it, there are 3 torx screws that hold it to the mast jacket. Take the turn signal switch out again- you will see them. If you are talking about the little plastic cap behind where the wiper switch is...

What have you done to your square lately??

I don't think the LMC one is quite as rugged as the OE, but that is just based on the visual. Functionally it was 100 percent correct. And, flat when brand new so you have to shape it for the electrical connector spot and the turn signals. I did not silicone the board down - probably help...

What have you done to your square lately??

I guess the positive to the bulb sockets with wires is in theory the problem I had could not occur. Unfortunately Mopar wiring in trucks was never that great in the 70s in my experience. Vans = no problem even with the same fuse box in the glove box set up. I don't get it. Helluva lot...

What have you done to your square lately??

Got the dash back together after a 4 day (couple of hours after work each day) job of cluster circuit board R & R. Find out tonight if it all still works as she got road tested on bumpy roads. The LMC circuit board was not to blame - loose bulb holders and 4 years of reaching up to wiggle...

Finally, something without a computer under the hood.

Welcome from Houston! No computer, but an HEI module that if it fails will strand you, and old school electronics for the delay wipers ( if you have them ) that if they clap out apparently are hard to come by but can be fixed. Minor issues/worries. I never had a HEI failure back in the day...

Has anyone superglued the copper contacts down on the circuit board ?

Ultimately, the answer to will it work is we will see. One thing one the silicone, or shoe goo, trick that I should have done differently was to put the silicone in the holes where the bulb holders go or on the holders themselves. I put the cluster in last night and 2 bulbs were acting up...

Really weird problem with '84-up tilt column... fuggin eh!

Ever get it figured out? I can't picture what could be causing it. One thought might be to wedge something down low to keep the shaft in place. Or, if you have not already tried it, put the spring and lock plate on and then use the lock plate puller to keep the shaft up while you screw the...

Has anyone superglued the copper contacts down on the circuit board ?

Baby steps - cluster out, disassembled, circuit board replaced, and back together. Interesting thing- the voltmeter has 3 studs but only 2 are used. Look at the pic of the housing - you only see 2 clips on the left hand side. Oh, yeah- I wondered if you could pull the clips out from the back...

Has anyone superglued the copper contacts down on the circuit board ?

Well. Fought like mad to get the cluster out this time. Dumbazz number one: Remove the shift indicator container from the cluster. I bent it before I pulled my head out ... Dumbazz number 2: Not much slack in the speedo cable. Hope its a tough as I hope it is- we will find out. And, the...

Has anyone superglued the copper contacts down on the circuit board ?

I cannot yet tell you what the 4 year old LMC board looks like as I have not pulled the cluster. On the OE one , what I am referring to is the curved copper contacts that the wipers on the bulb holders touch to firm the circuit. Several of them had come up at the ends and that is what I...

Has anyone superglued the copper contacts down on the circuit board ?

Damn - did not think of that ! Pulling the cluster is a PITA because of the aftermarket DIN style stereo, but I am almost anxious as I want to see what the aftermarket board is doing. I am picturing based on what my finger feels that the plastic tore and broke the copper contact.

Has anyone superglued the copper contacts down on the circuit board ?

As the title said, I am curious. I changed the circuit board with a LMC one a few years back, and probably wasted my time as I wonder if the plastic gauge holder is just worn where the bulb holders fit. I saved the old one, and here we are again as now the upper LH speedo light will not come...

    Need an honest opinion

Well, to be honest ... I am not a fan of the patina look. You said you could not paint it now, so I assume that is down the road. Based on that, I would not do any more to it for fear that it would make your work harder, or the paint job more expensive, when the time comes. The black does...
