    Huck's daily - 2005 Z71 crewcab

Lol I probably will. I just thought I saw an iffy spot on the cam and had the thought of "well, I could just reseal this one and find another motor to go all the way through. And I could find a later 5.3 with flat tops/TBSS intake/799s and gain 100+hp"...but then I'd have to go through all this...

    Huck's daily - 2005 Z71 crewcab

So now it’s time to get it on the stand, throw the plugs back in, tape off the ports and pressure wash and de-gunk it. Then I’ll evaluate and see if I’m gonna actually throw the cam in or not. I saw one little spot on the rear lobe through the valley that kinda looked like spalling or something...

So then I had to work it all the way back down onto its mounts, decouple the hoist, pull the fans out and try again And finally, it’s out! This thing is nastyyyyy

    Huck's daily - 2005 Z71 crewcab

Didn’t work on it Monday, but I did last night. Started by undoing the wiring under the oil pan and bungee’ing the PS/Atl bracket out of the way. Then got up top and go the top most bellhousing bolt out. This tool from HF is awesome, worked perfect on multiple occasions throughout this process...

    Leaking Metal Fuel Line??

It's not super likely but also not impossible, these things are 40+ years old now so if the metal line was rubbing anywhere or got some dirt/crap stuck up against it, it could've rubbed a hole or rusted out. But what's more likely is a section of rubber hose is leaking where it meets the metal...

Long time listener first time caller, or whatever...

Welcome from NE Ga. When you installed the LED tail lights, did you wire in a 50ohm resistor? Mine wouldn't work correctly in my '85 until I did that

    Drop 4x4?

What your current lift, wheel and tire setup? If it's the one in your profile picture, it definitely looks like it probably has a 2-4" lift up front and I'd assume the rear to match. You could put it back to stock but you'll also need smaller tires/possibly wheels depending on where you're at now.

Do I even need a gas tank vent tube?

I've always read about that online but never think to try it when I'm at the pump

Do I even need a gas tank vent tube?

Yep. It's a 50/50 shot if I can leave the cruise control on the slowest setting or if I have to sit there and babysit it while it clicks off every half gallon

Thankfully I've never had any rust in any of the ones I've bought and they've all had flares. I've always taken them off and cleaned/waxed behind and reinstalled cuz I like the look of the flares. Up north I certainly assume that but down here it's not really a problem thankfully

20min later, fit perfect With the inner fenders out, I think I can reach the bellhousing bolts through the sides. I have a 1.5" bodylift to go on, might go ahead and install that first for more room lol Ran out of steam about 7:30 last night. I'd hoped to have it out and on the stand at...

Rigged up something to keep the coolant off the front suspension and brakes This was about 6pm last night, got the intake off and about ready to put the lift plate on Didn't realize my lift plate was ONLY for a GenIV. So I had to modify it to clear the cam/oil pressure sensor on the Gen3...

Here's a picture of one of the plugs. It's rusty down in the threads, I'd like to beat whoever did the last tuneup over the head Also cleaned out the back fender corners where crap always collects This was JUST the dirt that was inside the bottom of the driver's fender flare :oops...

Problem is, it needs to come off the road soon too for a couple issues that have crept up and to do the suspension upgrade I've been sitting on for a year

As of this morning, i have 498mi on the rear end build. So what do I go and do? Start to tear the engine out of it   This 5.3 leaks out of every seal, I’ve been planning this for months. Decided to yank the whole thing and while I’m there, slip a little cam/converter in too...

What have you done to your square lately??

Used it as a workbench. I’ve been slowly creeping further and further, taking over more and more workbench and floor space at work lol. It was time to clean, organize and consolidate I had completely taken over these 3 bays  I still have more stuff stashed elsewhere that I need to go...

2" drop spring question. With pics

You're wayyyyy overthinking this. It won't hurt a thing once weight is on it, line up the lower pigtail in it's pocket and send it. I cut my stock springs, they're short enough that they shift any time I jack the truck up. Once I go over a couple bumps, I might hear a *spoing* and that's just...

Going from roll pan to bumper

Most roll pans either bolt to the frame rails or weld to the bedsides. Most roll pans don't require cutting off the frame horns but you won't know till you take a look. Stick your head under the truck and snap some pictures for us, it's pretty easy to spot if the ends of the rails have been...

Thankfully I've never grenaded any of mine but every one of them has, at one point or another, stayed locked after some wet weather or offroad foolishness and that's rough on hard pavement

Considering how many G80s I've seen explode themselves, even on easy driven trucks, no way I'd consider that. I'm with Spencer, I personally like clutch type differentials. I have a Yukon Duragrip in both my trucks and it's great. Locks up when you put the power down, is seamless in operation...

Tq converter for 5.3 ls swap in a 700r4

It's like all the guys on FB that want to keep their TH350 with an LS swap, you're negating half the benefits not going to an overdrive
